I have an LG 86" smart tv and Samsung Note 10 plus. The streaming on my Note 10 plus connected to 5GHz Wifi NBN has blown my mind.. I was getting lags with 2.4GHz but it's excellent on 5GHz. So I am thinking either the new Google TV device or just a converter USB-C to HDMI to connect my phone directly.

  • OP saviour!!!
It took few seconds to load tho and voila \o/

For those who don't have an Android TV —- Samsung here —- but have a recent Samsung device with DeX, remember that it supports DeX Wireless which basically projects your mobile/table into a SmartTV wireless.

With that being said, you can enjoy it and have an awesome experience. No cable, adapters and sh1t needed.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and Samsung Tab S6 and Xbox of course.
Right now you can already try this by playing games that are stored into your Xbox as long as they are into the same wireless network and your Xbox in on.

But remember, DO NOT USE WIRELESS 2.4GHZ NETWORK!!!!
Make sure you are connected into the 5Ghz network otherwise your experience will be sh1t.

    • Just wondering if you were playing on android pad and then cast it over to Samsung TV for xcloud gaming?
I have Sony android TV but i experienced massive lag and voice extortion so I don't think android TV is capable for xcloud gaming. I might need to play it on my phone and then cast it onto my Sony TV. I'll try thr 5Ghz network and see what happens.

      • No offence but Sony Android TVs are a terrible idea. They do have delays, people install dozens apps and don't know why the TV is sooo slow.

Back to your question, yes, just cast from your Android device to the TV. Your smartphone or tablet will process it way better than the TV.

It's too early to use the TV itself without a proper customised app. The service itself is new and workarounds are not good enough.

If you have Samsung devices, DeX will make the experience a big h0ly fuc*.
If you don't have it, Android cast built-in feature will do just as fine

        • Do you think Lenovo Duet Chromebook (128GB) will work better for xcloud?

    • Hi whiiiskyy - Would Samsung Dex work on non Samsung Android TVs? I am looking to get this:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/587652

If not, for the purposes of xcloud I understand I can sideload apk directly on to the TV OS and essentially xbox controller bluetooth to the Android TV?

Galaxy Note 10+ would be good to have Dex working on this TV too

Let's get that right, you are using a non Microsoft controller and judging the service while using Sony controller??

      No comments there really…….

      • PS4 controller is officially supported by Microsoft for the xCloud streaming. Depending on what phone he is using it may be missing the correct button layout definitions for the PS4 controller though, you can update the file if you have a phone running Magisk by installing the 1Controller Magisk module, activating it and rebooting phone.

Mate please have a look and get the thinking right. This was called out by Microsoft way back that they will support PS 4 controller

  • Anyone tried Lenovo Duet Chromebook (128GB) for xcloud gaming?

    • Planning to try later tonight when I get time. Just got the invite email this morning.

      • Let me know how you going. Planning to get a Chromebook if it performs well.

Worked fine on my Chromebook Duet with an Xbox One bluetooth controller. Played about 5 mins of Tekken 7 and seemed pretty smooth given my wifi/internet isn't perfect in my bedroom where I played.

I don't really see the appeal of cloud gaming. There's lag, visual quality diminishes, you own nothing.

    • For me the appeal is keeping my 6 year old PC for indie games and just streaming AAA games my computer can't handle so I don't have to spend ridiculous money on current gaming hardware.

  • So people are getting the invite emails already? I registered this afternoon and they said thanks, if you’re successful we’ll be in touch in the coming months.

  • Registered at night, received invite next morning. Ran it on a Nvidia Shield 2017 via 100mb wifi, with router <3m away. Quality is pretty bad - heavy compression artefacts and colour smearing that accumulate so much I occasionally can't tell what's happening on screen, as well as frame drops, sound stutters and noticeable input lag. Steam Link is on the other hand is very smooth. Might try it again with an ethernet cable but so far not something that was fun to use.

    • Try with the ethernet cable

    • Noticed the previous tips about wifi frequency, my router had them combined but after creating a separate SSID for 5GHz it runs much smoother thanks.
