Where Are All The Contact Lens Deals This Year?

I am planning to make my annual optical purchase using my health fund. I did a quick search to see if there are any deals and, unlike in 2018, there doesn't seem to be any big deals on contact lenses this year.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I be expecting to grab some good deals during Black Friday, Boxing Day, etc?

Cheers!

    I haven't seen any.

  • I haven't seen any either.

  • People WFH don't need to wear them? demand decreased?

  • brand/what you use would be helpful. bought cheap ones once and felt like they were scratching my eyes. Might have been cheap as it was b stock or even rejected stock. Since then, I rather buy from somewhere like specsavers if possible. I use Acuvue Oasys fortnightly and don't see many specials, all around $35 a pack delivered. Remember paying $90 - $100 for the same pack in 2008.

    • I normally go with Proclear 1 Day from Specsavers. Got my first contact lenses through them in 2018 and got a bunch more during their promotion in the same year. Never had experience with the cheaper brands but perhaps that's for the better…

  • I'm so glad there's a post because I'm wondering this as well - I've finally run out of all of mine besides the colored ones

  • my vision getting blury, i think i might need glasses next checkup

just wondering are contact lens easy to put on and take off? ( i dont like the thought of wearing glasses)

    • For me it depends on the day. I normally go for 1 Day contact lenses which you can just throw away at the end of the day. There are days I struggle to get them on and other days they're just a breeze. I don't go for monthly ones because I only wear contact lenses for specific purposes, e.g. sports, going out, etc. You will probably feel a bit weird when you put them on for the first few times as you're kind of gently poking your eyeballs but normally the opticians would help you with that anyway.

My sister wears monthly ones so she's more used to wearing and taking them off. You'll have to make sure to clean them and put them in a solution if you're going down that route.

      • thanks for the detailed reply

just wondering, on the days you struggle to get them on what happens? does it not go on/aligned correctly or does it just slide off?

also is there a chance of damaging your eyes if your not careful?

        • It varies. Sometimes it's the case of the lens not sticking to my eyeballs. Sometimes they fold on the corner as they are stuck to my eyeballs. Sometimes the lens is inverted and I didn't realise. Usually causes irritation and fixed by taking it off, putting it back into the solution, and starting over. This would take a maximum of 10 mins but when it goes well, the whole process would take less than 30 seconds.

I think eye damage related to contact lenses are more to do with infection, so not cleaning your hands before you handle the contact lenses, not storing them correctly, etc.

          • @megabytez: oh i see, thanks for the detailed reply

            • @ATTS: No worries - the prospect of wearing contact lenses can be daunting, but get your optometrist to walk you through it and once you've done it a few times you'll be fine.

  • In case anyone is looking for a deal before end of the year…
