    Compatible Devices:

    PCIe Gen3 x2, PCIe Gen3 x1, PCIe Gen2 x4, PCIe Gen2 x2, and PC

Write Speed: 1600 Megabytes Per Second
Read Speed: 3400 Megabytes Per Second

(The speed is for the 2TB but should be similar for the others)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the 250gb speeds listed on the 2TB page.
The 2TB should have read speeds of 3400MB/s and writes of 2900 MB/s.

There's a table on this site that compare the speeds depending on the capacity: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13760/the-western-digital-wd-…

      • interesting table! 250gb looks like it's not worth it at all. I wonder if it's similar for other brands

The smaller models are always slower speeds to encourage buying larger models. Has always been this way with SSD's. Although that's quite an extreme difference here.

@Click_It: It's more than that, it's a channel bandwidth capacity thing.
They can write to several chips at once. And there are more chips on the bigger SSDs, and less on the smaller ones.

          • +3

@Click_It: It's not to encourage buying larger models. It's simply how they work: smaller SSDs use fewer NAND chips, so can't parallelise access (especially the naturally slower writes) across as many chips.

@elusive: I stand corrected, either way, it's always been this way. Just not for the reasons I mentioned.

            • @elusive: Then why does it slow down past 1tb?

              • @Aequitas: If you're referring to the table in the AnandTech article, they explain it right below:

The 2TB model will actually be slightly slower than the 1TB, due in part to using 512Gb NAND dies instead of 256Gb dies so that the 2TB model can still be a single-sided M.2 card.

  • I got the 1tb in the last deal. Awesome drive! Highly recommend

2Tb $418….. much cheaper equivelant performing drives for around $360-380.
