Apple's 14 Day Change of Mind Return

Am I correct to say that Apple has a 14 day change of mind return policy:

https://www.apple.com/au/shop/help/returns_refund

And because we are now part of the "holiday return period" I have until January 8 2021 to return it?

So if I was to go to the Apple store on launch day to buy the new Macbook air m1, I could return it in person to the Apple store before Jan 8.

Has anyone had experience with this return thing? Do they happily take it or do they make a fuss?

Edit: Checked in store and it does apply. This is also reflected on my receipt

I would be contacting apple and clarifying, and not asking here

    Yes and yes.

they don't make a fuss but if you damage it, you bought it. Also, this is only offered if you buy directly from Apple. If you buy elsewhere it is covered by the retailers return policy.

this is only offered if you buy directly from Apple

Just gonna drill this point home, as it’s a very important point.

  • Yep you can do what you’re saying. I did it to trial one of the 16” MBPs last Christmas. They don’t make a fuss, they don’t care at all.

As already mentioned, you must buy from Apple directly for this to apply.

    • Did you buy in store or online?

  • They need stock for this….

    • So your saying, they are happy with people exploiting this because they can make less margin on a new device in their refurb store?

      • No I am saying they have avenues to reduce the cost to them of offering this service. So they dont care, as much as, others about returns.

    • Planning to buy a 2018 MBP 15”. I wonder where the hell they get these?

  • Provided you buy directly from Apple they don't ask any questions. Bought an iPhone 11 last year and got sick of having to pick it up to unlock it because they still don't have the fingerprint reader on the front. They didn't even ask why when I took it back. I'm still waiting for a fingerprint reader.

    • Yeah that's the only gripe I have about my iPhone 11 pro. I liked being able to have my iPhone 6 on the table, touch it and see what the notification was about by just glancing at it from the side. And then going back to whatever I was doing.

  • I've bought a couple of products since they launched this extended return policy for the holidays. I just mail the item back and it's a pretty seamless experience, so I don't really deal with anyone to get the item sent back. There are no hoops or obstacles really here. Only real pain is the time for your funds to get back to you

    • oh really, didnt know this was an option.

      • I bought them via the Apple Store app so it gave me the option there. Not sure about how it works with in store purchases though best to clarify that one with them. Since pretty much everything except the newly released products have next day delivery I never saw the point of going in store

With stuff like this, you contact the company and get them to clarify any queries/concerns. You then save that as evidence for use later if needed, as their representative has made a guarantee to you.

Especially useful for dealing with Telstra.

  • Did it with an Apple watch last year. Purchased in November, wore it for about a month and decided it wasn't for me. Returned no questions asked. There were a couple of tiny marks here and there on it from normal use, the salesperson didn't care.

I made sure to keep the boxes etc and everything.

    Cheers

  • Do they do this for AirPods?

    • Yup. Everything.

They also apparently do price matching but it's not commonly known or advertised. Never tried it though.

      • Oh sweet may get a pair for the holidays and then return them

Btw how long does the return process take?

U sure it would be fine?

        • In-store straight away, by post couple days, then it's usual 3-5 days payment processing. No different than usual. Call them or pop in store to confirm before you buy.

If you want AirPods Pro, they're commonly on sale for $299 at Amazon and other outlets. You might get an international version (Malaysian/Thai) but doesn't really matter. As long as AU seller you get same warranty and ACL coverage.

  • I’m messaging Apple support and they are saying this isn’t active in Australia

EDIT: nvm there was a misunderstanding

  • Purchased M1 macbook air in mid-december and returned today for the free airpods. No qualm.
