Fill a Bag of Seedlings for FREE at Masters Tingalpa (QLD)

220

Like http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57553 but now FREE!!!!

Only could find Silverbeet, Broccoli, Chives and Parlsey. They don't look too healthy, but at $0 you can't go wrong! Just needs some TLC.

This freebie could also be at others, but I haven't checked.

I don't have the receipt because they didn't even have to put it through the checkout.

Wish NSW would get some Masters.

I wish Bunnings would adopt this behaviour. I've seen them throwing out plants straight into the bin before, and asked if I could have them instead of going to fill their waste facility. Apparently they are not allowed to give away plants for free, so they said they would sell them to me for $0.50 to $2.00 per pot. The plants were in a pretty bad way, and there were only a few left (which were not crushed and snapped by being stuffed into a garbage bin), so even $0.50 was overpriced. I might have been able to save one or two, but the effort involved just was not worth it.

Obviously Masters has an alternative approach and I like it!

  • The reason Bunnings is so happy to throw them out is that their suppliers don't get paid until the plant goes through the checkout.

But if they gave them away free, as per this deal, then they still wouldn't go through the checkout ;-)

    • I was told the reason was because they were concerned about people rorting the system so if I knew someone at Bunnings, that employee might be willing to take a plant off the shelf, and declare it to be no good and destined for waste just so they could give it to me for free.

Then again, I've overheard two Bunnings garden section employees talking about how they get 50% off all purchases in the garden section so I would have thought the bigger risk was me approaching them and saying "you go buy $200 worth of plants for me, you pay $100, I'll give you $150, everyone wins"…

  • Three weeks ago that store had giveaway Parsley and Coriander seedlings, staff said take a tray if you like - there are 16 generous sized individual seedlings in a tray. Again they didn't look too healthy but about 80% have lived and are growing well.

  • Anyone found any in Victoria?

Either way many of these plants were 1 $ so pretty good deal imho
