My Sony Hifi Needs Fixed Which New One Is Best

My old but hardly used sony hifi which is powerful but is bit dated now has multi changer which does not seem to work or open.
I took the side panel off to see if i could see what the problem is but too many components and its not as if i know how to fix.
It might be an easy fix or needs something which is not worth it or cant fix due to age.
I also expect it to cost me to have it looked at.

Im sure but can't tell if i have a few important cds stuck in there i need.

If i decide to update my hifi was wondering what was the better of this two, i do like the sony one, but with dvd is that not bit dated? Just curious what year the sony one came out.

Both get good reviews.

    these devices are so yesterday…..

  • What do you mean old? What do you recommend for similiar prices or less.
Dont see a lot of options.
Something powerful and mainly for cds ok yes other options are good but i like buying physical music not digital.

Have you considered ripping your CD collection and playing off USB or network device?

  • Get this

    Or spend for this

I have done no research, but they are both better than your links

  • I love the lights on the sony machine i posted.

But what is music cast? Something you can add extra speakers wireless to different rooms.

And why a big price difference on two Yamaha models what does the expensive have which makes it better than other?

I have a Yamaha soundbar which maybe is not compatible with this hifi but im im impressed with the soundbar compared to a sony soundbar one i got few years before.

  • I have the older model of this system SC-AKX710 and its great. Has all the usual features like Bluetooth and CD drive, AUX and Duel USB ports. Also has other features like karaoke and DJ features that i don't use. You can customize the equalizer and change bass and treble levels. You can record songs to the internal memory (i have never tried). Its meant to compete the Sony system you posted. Sony use to a have 1950w model that was a similar setup to this system but then they took it of the market and went with the separate sub-woofer system style.

    • Yes i noticed that sony one listed the other day not a bad price from jb but harder to get now. But trying to get a good review on the pany SC-AKX710GSK on youtube. One i did see was sony above in your link vs the SC-AKX710GSK and guy said pany wins hands down
I do love the lights in the sony one lol. But hey i have two large portable disco devices rhat shines light onto ceiling for kids which they love and me lol.

It says the SC-AKX710GSK speaker cables are short how short? I keep them close anyway.
Just curious if you get systems these days like this where they speakers are wireless.
Or maybe wireless has it's issues.

I beleive sony are breaking away from hifi or maybe im wrong.
Can't remember if if have had a pany before.

So what's the internal memory for?

But what made you go for the pany? I know others have suggested other hifi etc but im old fashioned and happy to put in cds to play.
I should but i dont have all my music in a hard drive.

My current sony only has issue's with cd changer its not opening and im not even sure if i have cds stuck inside otherwise i still be using it. Its got a bit of power but getting a bit dated now could be about 10 yrs old but only used from new about 7 yrs of that time and hardly used to be honest.

I could upgrade it and stick it in another room and have it looked at another time.

It be nice to get some deal on the pany during black friday but who knows.

  • The Panasonic is a great unit i bought mine in 2016 and it was on sale for like $380 i think and at that time they where about $600 new. My only qualm is it the fact it has a fan in the main unit. Understandable seeing as the unit is rated at such high wattage. I have cleaned mine out once in the time i have had it, You can't really hear the fan any ways music is to loud lol.
My older model (SC-AKX600) is almost the same as the SC-AKX710 only differences are the power output mine is 1600w and newer model is 2000w and more internal memory on the new model plus they do look slightly different.

I have had many of these system over the years and have interchanged between Panasonic and Sony a few times and once i bought a made in Japan Teac, I use to upgrade every few years as they would increase the power output and change the features. I chose this Panasonic mainly for the price to performance it had all the features i needed and was a decent price.
Internal memory is a gimmick its meant to be used to record songs from the radio i guess or a cd or a USB stick. Panasonic has released firmware updates so maybe they needed a certain amount of memory and just left some onboard. You can control the stereo from the Panasonic app and the Panasonic DJ app thing, which would take up memory i guess.

Speaker cable is short maybe 2 meters but i just added some extra speaker wire from Bunnings. The stereo uses a BI amp setup so it has 4 speaker cables per speaker separate the high/ low so get double the amount.

The stereo is loud and offers good bass considering it doesn't have a separate sub. Mids are good they can get lost in the bass if you have the bass turned up and highs are clear if you want them to be but you will lose some bass for clarity. Its a 3 way speaker system but its aimed more towards bass. Mine is setup for bass but i have to change the settings if i use it to watch i movies or the house will shake apart lol. I have never really had to take the volume over half way so more than enough power.

  • So the SC-AKX710 is from 2016 that's pretty old i thought it was never.
Some youtube vids show the model numbers at end different but this might be country related.

What did you mean you use it to play movies has this dvd built in like sony.

    • No the SC-AKX710 is the newest model but its very similar to my older model. I use the AUX to connect to my PC no DVD player in these systems.

Check out this system its on sale.
      https://www.appliancegiant.com.au/panasonic-scua30-urban-aud…

      • Ok so the SC-AKX710 is the newest model any idea what year it came out? Is this what you have?
And there is no similiar model to SC-AKX710 but next level up from this brand which is also newer model?
What is that link a speaker? Not a hifi though.
I do have two portable speakers which have lights on top that that light on the roof with lights.

But them speakers you link to might work good with the SC-AKX710 but im only really after i good hifi with a bit of power behind it.

        • I am not sure when the SC-AKX710 came out its probably a year old now. They tend to change models every few years. Looking on the Panasonic website the bigger model is still current but its getting a few years old now. Its probably not a big seller as the price is up there so life cycle might be longer, Heaps of people on Ozbargain don't spend $1500 on a TV lol.

This is Panasonic's current line up.
          https://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/home-entertainment/hi-…

That little system isn't bad its only 300w RMS (still plenty of power) but its an all in one, It has a AM/Fm radio and USB ports and AUX and Bluetooth but no CD drive. Sony is moving that way with there stereos. People seem to like them, maybe its a bit tidier for some people. Its sold as portable speaker that you can take with you because the speakers are built in (its still a 3 way speaker system) just easier to carry, Compared to a HiFi with a separate main unit and speakers but either way you still need a power point.

  • SC-MAX3500EK obviously ignore the ek at end as probably country related but but is this a newer model again or out same time? Probably not available here but was curious if this was newer superior model.

    • The market is split into different sizes and quality starting from portables then book shelf, Mini HiFi the categorizes are not clear because the quality of some bookshelf system make them more expensive while a bigger system might be cheaper but be more powerful. Then you have separate amps and speakers which i don't think Panasonic sell unless its a 5.1 style TV unit. Sony does sell amps and speaker system separate. The book shelf system are meant to compete with Yamaha and Sony and probably Denon.

This thing is 4000w and its still classified as a mini system lol.
      https://www.winningappliances.com.au/p/panasonic-4000w-mini-…

If you buy a system like the one above go to the shop and check out the size first as the speakers are huge.

      • I think the 4000w is much older model and got a price tag to match.

To be honest not really sure what im after, if a good deal come along i might grab it over something else..
The sony one was what i liked as it had them lights built in which made it look cool. The deal if i was after a hifi at time from your jb post i might have grabbed it as was cheaper.
Then they have the other model up from that but it is a bit more.
This SC-AKX710 looks very similar to the sony one you posted from jb.
And people are saying the SC-AKX710 is a better machine.
I suppose it depends on budget and what im after.

The sony i have which is bit dated but need to have it looked at as nothing is h happening with the disc changer.
Its the sony genezi mhc gt 444 it comes in 4 parts but seems low in power compared to the SC-AKX710.

Its saying total 450rms/780w total music power.

  • My 20 yo Sony 3 cd Multi hanger had similar problems, I opened it and find out the problem was mechanical not electronic, the elastic band that makes the drawer work was broken because of heat and age, I simply replaced it with another simple office elastic band of suitable size and it started to work perfectly again.

    • Im not even sure comes with a band and mine is right at tbe bottom of everything else around it, i would not even attempted to take parts out and totally mess it up.
I did take i side off to have a look and that's as far as i went.
