Belong Double Data Sign up, Billing Cycle and Other Cautions

Latest Update: Belong removed old platform portal and only allows registration through new platform, which does not give double data. It seems that almost all Belong Mobile phone numbers have been moved onto the new platform.

I think this deserves a post as people had different exp recently.

Double data and $20 referral credits sign up through the link below. You can not access this link through offcial website now. It was the old sign up portal (old platform) that is not closed down yet.

But the problem is that once you sign up through the link above, at this moment, you can not data gift to others who signed up through the offcial access (new platform) which does not give double data or $20 referral credits and with new billing cycle policy. You can not data gift to old accounts that have been moved to the new platform, either. From my exp, the accounts created before mid SepOct have been moved to new platform.

These are my findings in a week to explain why people have different exp recently. It could be not 100% correct, but it is the best to my knowledge. I am happy to be corrected and update the post whenever necessary.

  • When you say you can't data gift, is the function removed from the website or it just didn't work when you try to data gift?
    I have an account since last year and the data gift and referral link is still visible on my dashboard.

    • The function is there. But you'll get this message if both Belong numbers are on the different platform.

      "Your data gift failed. Please check the mobile number you entered and try again."

      • Have you tried opening a support ticket to ask them to do it?

        • I want to find the cause of it, not just solve one case.

          • @Neoika: In that case, have you opened a support ticket to ask Belong what the go is?

            • @Dacs: I did, but I think support did not tell me the truth or know well about it. Think of that a Woolies staff may be useless regarding Rewards issues.

              This is a sharing tips post, not complaint one. I read through some Belong deal posts and find some people did not get double data on signup and have different billing cycle. Hence, I created this topic alongside with data gift issues.

              Another issue I did not mention is about the data missing on signup, e.g. 40GB data but only 39GB available to gift.

              • @Neoika: I'd guess it's just a bug in their system while they're migrating to their new website.

        On Whirlpool, users say if they manually create a support ticket stating the number and data amount you want to gift, they will manually transfer it for you

          "Different platforms affecting data gift" is the new finding in my post and more to be added later till I can confirm it from my/other's exp.

          • @Neoika: I would hope it is just a bug that would be addressed shortly. If not, it seems rather stupid to advertise data gifting when you don't even know if you can gift it to who you want

    This is the response from belong when I raised a support ticket.

    “ Belong Mobile is starting to migrate to a digital platform for us to serve you better. Your receiver's number is one of those customer we initially migrated. We have forwarded this concern to the relevant department and they will get in touch with you soon.

    We apologise for the inconvenience it may have caused you and rest assured it'll be addressed accordingly.”

    The belong number that I am attempting to gift to is a new account. Activated on the 15th of October.

    My experience on the new platform :

    I'm an existing Belong customer (my kids' phones) and thanks to the $80 broadband SIM I'm switching my own number from Optus.

    Using my existing Belong Login I can now ADD ANOTHER MOBILE to my account, which was previously not allowed by belong (1 account/number per 1 email)

    So, logged in with my email, the account shows mobile AND broadband. I added my new service .

    Warning 1 - You can't do a referral code when adding a new service to an existing account.

    Warning 2 - My credit was applied instantly and my billing cycle started immediately. No more double data in the first few days. (I registered on the 16th)

    • Could both these warnings be limited to adding a second mobile to an existing account?

    • Wouldnt it have been more beneficial to create your own account through the old link that gave referral credit?

    "Your account is temporarily unavailable as we work to improve your online experience. Please check back later. We should be good to go by 8am AEST with a new and improved look."

    Never wait till the last day to change plan. If it were 19th today, I would not be able to change it.

  • Yeah Belong are dodgy. I had to go to ombudsmand.

    I signed for NBN which said free $80 mobile credit. However, does say they will continue to charge $40 silently (doesn't appear on belong account, no email bill). I only realised after 5 months of seeing my credit card statement. There is no phone and its been 5 days on raising ticket.

    • Wait what..! I signed up about 2 months ago, when did they start charging you. I haven't activated mine yet though.

  • Yeah pretty much now. First two months are free. So raise support ticket and see how long they get back to cancel.

    What is everyone's experience in how long they take to get back?

    I wouldn't recommend. Basically they only $5 cheaper compared to others. But if you have issues, you stuck for weeks or months as it's only email supprt which takes weeks to reply.

    Is there a limit of how many gift data you can rollover or received?

    • I think your two accounts have different login interface.

      There may be a hidden "one month probation period" for accounts created on the old platform before they can data gift to accounts on the new platform. The "one month probation period" is also the waiting period for new accounts to be moved to the new platform.

  • Has anyone been able to gift data from old to new accounts on different platforms or vice versa? Would love to know if you had to go through support or anything if confirmed successful

    • It'll be successful through support request. But I found that they'd just move you to new platform and then manually transfer data for you (you can do it yourself actually). In other words, you'll be moved to new platform early if you do so.

    • I raised a support ticket and have been communicated with them for few times. Got confusing messages. One said they are having a new system and asked for details of the receiving mobile and will do manually. Then one message said that the receiving number is not connect to Belong, but I have double checked that the receiving is connected to Belong all along, and actually just renew yesterday.
      I just want to gift 1GB data to that number.

      I am going to give up, and if they could not resolve that next week, I will quit Belong. Too much time wasting. Probably go to the 1 yr Boost Plan or Aldi plan. That is mainly for a iPad which stays at home most of the time.

    On Sunday night (29 Nov), the old portal still worked. I used it to port my existing number to Belong but at the end I got "We couldn't connect your service. It looks like we've run into a problem getting your service ready. Please visit the support centre below for help."

    I tried again and got "There is an existing order for this SIM. Please try again later or order a new one."

    I checked yesterday (30 Nov) and the old portal was gone. I can't activate on the new portal either.

    Still waiting for a response from Support.

      Without double data, the value of Belong SIM just gets devaluated heavily. I wont buy any more. Still two left, though.

      • The Belong Support Team helped me to resubmit my porting request and it activated today (2 Dec). Unfortunately, they left out the referral code which was previously accepted by the website, so I messaged them again.

        I picked the 10 GB option and $25 was deducted immediately (I had an $80 SIM, I now have $55 "remaining credit").

        Nonetheless, my payments page says, "Next payment: $0 Due 4 December 2020". Does this mean I get double data?

        • In your data remaining tab, it should say

          "you'll get another 10gb on (Date Month) "

          If it's the 4th December then you would get double data

    • I am seeing the new portal as an existing customer (since July) and the referral program is still around.

    Confirming the link in the post still goes to the new sign up process. I signed up today and the service is now active as of day of signing with billing day the same - next billing day in my case 5/1/2021. Used a referral code during sign up and it worked.

    • where do you enter the referral code in the new website?

      • In the second or third screen. You can't miss it sorta midway through

        • ahh yep i just tried but it keeps saying payment m,ethod is invalid? i used credit card and paypal both didnt work…

    • So you signed up 5/12/20 and next billing date is 5/1/21. Sounds like the double data on sign up is gone?

        Yes. Post has been updated to reflected it. Unless Belong brings about a new incentive signup offer, many people wont join again. Maybe Belong has reached its market target so that it does not need more customers.

        • I had the same experience for a family member that I helped with porting the number to Belong.
          There is no more double data, and the old Belong billing days (4, 12, 20, 28) are long dead.

          I have no idea when this change happened? Maybe Arthur Dunger knows.

          • @DoctorCalculon: He is banned somehow. Actually, I think he only joined Belong 1 or 2 times. He may know about Belong less than you.

            To answer your question, since early Dec 2020.

    Belong now is longer competitive, when compare with Aldi, Woolworth, especially the 365 days plan.

    I have tried data gifting yet.

    I will not buy further Belong SIM unless there is a really good deal. Looking for good 365 days deal, Any good suggestions?

    The ozbargainer (and whirlpooler) should be more widely informed about the change.

    You are surprised? This backwards policy was enacted a long time ago when they started their website and app refresh initiative.
    You should be able to find a lot of posts on this on Whirlpool as well.

    I did not realize that you can still have double data through the old link.

    It didn't work for me back in January. The old link simply redirected to the new sign up flow.
