Solar Tyre Monitoring System

Hi, I am looking at buying this as a gift.

Any personal feedback on any?

I was looking at Amazon, however, most seem to come from China and probably won't get here before Christmas. I saw this one which has heaps of positive reviews. Otherwise SCA is $150 plus which is more than what I was wanting to pay (I need to pay for jewellery).

  • Like the look of the OBD2 unit.

  • Sorry, but how often is this person having flat tyres?!

Sure, for a 4wd-er it could come in handy, but day-to-day it's just a PITA extra thing on the dash

    • Yes I would agree.

    • LOL! None yet, but they have had low pressure a few times. My car has a system built in, and she is impressed by it.

      Hyundai > Suburu.

Not much on the dash, but I am sure she will find a place for it.

There's a big difference between liking your integrated system in the speedo/trip display, and wanting a separate dash unit to monitor hers

    • Dashes are getting bigger so need something to take up all that space.

Why on earth would you make this solar powered?

So you can use your 12v power socket for the dashcam and the USB port to charge your phone and not have to get another adapter or hard wire the tyre monitor?

  • ebay au have plenty. ~$45 delivered from au. they use fastway, which is slow but it will get delivered before x-mas.

  • I grabbed a generic one from Banggood last year, which has survived pretty much a full lap around Australia attached to a caravan.
Link below, but as with most of those type of sites, postage can take ages. Was ~$45 then.

Looks almost identical to the ebay one above, so whichever does faster shipping.

  • I have tyre monitoring, but mine are inside the tyres

  • I have a similar unit to these on both of our cars. Have been useful at least 4 times over the last 12 months. usually $30-40 off ebay
    - Notified 3x punctures (nails from construction site near work car park) before I drove home on them - crisis averted
    - Warning beep in wife's car to reinflate tires after cold/winter temp change (tire temps below 30 with temperature change, no actual leak)

Only caveat is that the battery itself doesn't last that long, so if you don't drive during the day/park outside regulary, it will go flat (I do a fair bit of night shift)
And one of mine makes a capacitor whine noise when its out of battery but there isn't enough light to turn it back on

But overall, very happy with it
