So with Optus/Vodafone nbn plans, they come with a 4G backup SIM for the modem in case there's a disruption to the nbn service. Has anyone tried using the SIM in their phone for free data?

I’ve got a feeling it will end in tears. Companies can monitor for this
It does end in tears, or at least a disabled 4G backup service. My friend used his 4G backup modem for his mum's "light use" at her house and another router at his house and the 4G backup died within a week - though her "light use" morphed into using it for Netflix pretty quickly so they might have been faster on pulling the trigger than if the 4G is truly only used lightly
I would imagine it can see what cell tower it's connected too as well and if it's a certain distance from the registered address of the service they could pull the plug
It’s a special sim.
It has a 05 phone number as opposed to a 04 one.(Inside info)
Does not work. I've tried the Vodafone SIM and it is locked to that modem.
Saying that you can use that modem on 4G while using Vodafone NBN with another modem/router at the same time. Recently I was moving house and used the Voda Modem at the new house for 4G internet while using the same account with an Asus router at the old place. Had this setup for about a month and had no issues. After two weeks or so I got an SMS reminding me that the 4G was only for backup but they never disabled it. Maybe I got lucky and my usage period was limited so not sure if this will work in the long run.
