15" Gaming Laptop with GTX 2060 - $2000 - $2500 - Metabox The Best Option with Click Frenzy Sale?

Hi Guys,

Looking for a gaming laptop with a GTX 2060 and solid battery, up to $2500. Have done some research/watched reviews and so far have found the following:

I've heard nothing but good things about Metabox - can get these specs for $2104 delivered:

Alpha-X model: https://www.metabox.com.au/store/Alpha-X-Range

  • Intel Core i7-10875H 8-Core
  • NVIDIA RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6
  • 15.6" FHD IPS Edge-to-Edge Matte 144Hz LED
  • 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ (2 x 8GB)
  • Kingston A2000 500GB PCIe M.2 SSD
  • 500GB 5400RPM HDD Slim
  • Intel AX201 Dual Band WIFI/BT

  • 2 Year Metabox Premium Care

Would this be the best option? Is there a brand/model I should look at instead? Cheers!

RTX3070 laptop for around $2k on metabox

    • Where are you seeing this? Metabox are only stocking up to RTX 2080 at the moment.

    • LINK ME

    • Sorry lol misread it, could have sworn it was 3070 but my eyes played tricks on me

  • I have one of these build quality is good. If your mainly using it a desktop replacement go 17" 144hz with the 1660ti or 2060 imho.

Excellent cooling and good bang for buck

I have 2 Dell laptops in the past and this one is way better for power users.

    • Thanks man; how do you find the noise - someone commented on them being extremely loud in that link.

Downsides (for me anyway) are the laptop runs very hot, fan sounds like a jet plane on full, and the power charger is the size and weight of a brick. Not the most portable of laptops either.

Portability is important too as I'll be taking it out with me every weekday.

      • It is loud when pushing it to the max, but normally not too bad. You can set the fan speed aggressiveness. With headphones you hear nothing obviously.

The battery is kinda small though and keyboard not the greatest if those things are priority. Metabox is a value for money spec beast but otherwise not the best.

        • Cheers for that; have done a bit more searching and it still seems like the best value option - will see what prices are like for the competition as well on Black Friday.

      • Its pretty much one or the other. A lightweight, portable laptop….or a decent gaming laptop. If you want decent cooling and something that doesn't throttle due to heat as soon as you start up minesweeper, its going to be a chunky device.
As for the fans, yes they are a bit noisy at full speed, but unless you are gaming they sound like any other laptop. Again, its just something you have to deal with with a gaming laptop.
Realistically the weight is not going to matter that much. Its a couple of hundred grams between most of the models.
If you are carrying it every day then think about investing in a decent laptop backpack rather than the messenger bag style.

I'm writing this on a Metabox and mine has been great. As Joe said, if you can stretch to the 17" version, it is a really good option.

Something to look into though is the 1660ti over the 2060. They are very similar cards, the major difference being that the 2060 has ray tracing and DLSS hardware built in. Only problem is that the 2060 doesn't have enough grunt to actually DO ray tracing. So essentially you are paying for stuff you can't actually use.

The 2060 does have ~5% better overall performance than the 1660ti, but in no way justifies the price difference between the two.

Spend the extra on the 17" :)

    • Thanks mate, I'll have a look - holding out for Black Friday

I just shelled out $2475 for this a few minutes ago:
        https://www.aftershockpc.com.au/welcome/Productinner/vapor-1…
$2525 (-$50 w/ code JARRODSTECH, check out his review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryqV46GOaKY)

        15.6" 240hz FHD
        i7-10875H
        2070 Super Max-P (115W)
        1x 8GB 2666 RAM stick
        512GB M.2 NVME (R: 3500 | W: 3000)
        WiFi 6 Intel AX201 (AX/AC3000 + BT5.0)
        1.7 kg Magnesium Alloy build

Has 1 empty M.2 NVME slot and 1 empty RAM slot, cheaper to fill these myself once I get the laptop.
Hopefully they can ship by this Friday, should have it by the following Wednesday then.

I just meant to buy the Lenovo S540 for myself earlier this week. How did I even end up buying this?!

        • Just watched the review, looks awesome!

what an absolute unit! such good value these days with performance laptops, few years ago there was way less options and relative performance compared to desktop was terrible
