Seems like a good price for a surveillance / security camera microSD.

WD does own SanDisk, so makes sense.
Western Digital WD Purple
Released in April 2018 the WD Purple series is Western Digital’s attempt to enter the surveillance storage market. Unfortunately, their cards are more expensive and have much less endurance compared to Sandisk’s High Endurance card.
For 256gb, sandisk is $74 at amazon, $44 when on sale.
Right now, WD is $49 delivered. It's fine. But I would edit out the bit in the OP about the "going rate" - it's misleading. You would buy the sandisk at $74 instead.
Although I'm not sure if the sandisk has the "health monitoring in compatible cameras" - didn't look into this further.

Probably marketing speak for "Look we have SMART values."?
For this type of card, anything mentioned about 'less endurance' would be a deal breaker to me.
+1 for color.
It's a nice purple
great for Drones and cameras. most people don't need for phone as they are coming with decent memory these days. unless u love to store 4/8K recording.
Be careful its only U1, and may not be fast enough to directly record to, depending on recording quality.
Are these good for dashcams?
Well I've been using the same Samsung Evo 128gb for 4 years now, day in day out. No issues.
DYOR if these things are worth the price premium.
Yes, high endurance and 3D nand, very reliable.
Just did some calculation. This card is 256gb can do up to 128TBW
https://documents.westerndigital.com/content/dam/doc-library…Samsung pro endurance 128GB (i know it's smaller) can do 43800 hours
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/global.semi.static/Mem…
Based on Full HD (1920x1080) video content recorded at 26 Mbps Video support26Mbps divided by 8 = 3.25MByte per sec = 195MB per minute = 11.7GB per hour.
So it is 43800 hours x 11.7GB = 512460GB, divided by 1000 you get 512TBW, which is FOUR TIMES the endurance of this WD card!
Sandisk high endurance has less 'hours' than Samsung but still much better than this.
Avoid this if you want reliable footage.
$9 shipping kills it for me. Great deal OP!
Only U1 Speed. Beware. For 4K recording, you'll need a U3 Card.
The blurb mentions 4k?
Very misleading.
I’ve found that all endurance cards are rated slightly lower.
That means it reaches a minimum of 10MB/s.
That's a minimum of 80MegaBIT per second; which should be enough for most 4k cameras that only take microSD.
And that's assuming it only reaches the minimum; if it reaches 100Megabit, the Osmo, FIMI and Gopro range is all covered.Resolution is irrelevant to cards, it's all about bitrate.
So tempting
would buy this becasue it's purple. just need a see through phone so i can look at it then cover it with a matt case……
Obligatory, "Is this good for the Switch?"
Switch seems to like anything thats 3dnand based.
There sure are a lot of OzBargainers with surveillance systems. Protecting all our bargains I suppose.
Didn't even know WD made microSDs. Very cool.
