  • Moved to Forum. Something made Open Source does not mean it's a bargain. Not to mention that Carmack said that it would have been open sourced years ago. The data files are also not free so people still need to pay to play Doom 3.

    Maybe with id Tech 4 being open sourced, we'll see more FOSS games…

    99% of people who see this won't be able to get it to compile if they try (or even know where to start), and even if you get that far you still need the resource files (models, maps, sounds etc) to run it which aren't GPL.

    There are plenty of better 3D engines which are open and doing the rounds now. Unless there's some really niche optimisation technique you're trying to learn about I can't see how too many people will find any use in this.
