Power Adapter for LaCrosse BC700

Have La Crosse BC 700 battery charger (brought via ozbargain post a few years ago). Looks like should be 3v 2.8amp charger. I have an AC adapter that looks like it should be right (fits ok and complete with US pins!) but the brand is Ktec. Wondering if the charger is broken or using the wrong adapter.
Any suggestions for similar replacement charger? something good but cheaper than the $AU145.00 for the BC 1000. TIA
