PS5 Version of Miles Morales and PS4 Version Has Significantly Different Loading Times on PS5

Hello all,

I was thinking of getting ps4 version of miles morales on the release day then play it on ps5 once I got my hands onto them on December assuming they will run the same way.

However, according to this aussie youtuber who got to test both versions on PS5, he noticed there was a loading screen on PS4 version while the PS5 version didn't. (From 5:29) Also, on 7:20 he mentions that haptic feedback was missing on PS4 version running on PS5.

I am starting to wonder if it applies to all the PS4 versions of next gen games, like assassin's creed Valhalla.

Im not sure if i am the only one who didnt know this but consider it if you did not know.

  • Yes. PS5 games are fundmentally different from their PS4 counterparts. It's not just just a matter of loading in the same data. There is a lot of other things going on that make super fast loading times possible.

    • I just wanted people to know because I believe there will be alot of people who would get ps4 versions of the game because it is cheaper, and thinking of playing it on ps5 expecting the same level lf experience. (From what I saw from comments on ps5 games deal)

I thought when you put the PS4 disc in that the PS5 version downloaded. But I guess not.

        • Some will let you upgrade for a few to the ps5 digital version

  • That's one of the major features of the PS5… Custom SSD & architecture that's faster than almost everything out there.

    • Both versions are ran on PS5

Yes, PS5 games would be optimised for the PS5 hardware. PS4 games in BC will not be without an appropriate patch. They won't function better or have boost mode without being patched.

  • When you get your PS5 you'll be able to upgrade to the PS5 version of Miles for free with your PS4 disc/download, but yeah, it's a completely different build of the game, so your save won't carry over.

    • I was assuming he would have done an 'upgrade' of the ps4 version when he ran it on ps5… maybe not

      • The PS5 can also play PS4 games. He was just simply testing the PS4 version of the game to compare it to the next-gen version.

Then the test is quite pointless? Cause why would you not upgrade it to a PS5 version if you had those options…

@HelloIm: The test was for people curious to see what the PS4 version is going to look like on a PS4… The PS5 doesn't utilise all of its power when it plays backwards compatible games. Of course you wouldn't actually play the PS4 version when the upgrade is free.

            • @Tiges98: No he says he received the code for PS4, so he played on PS4 (from 5:10). Then later, he received another code for PS5 version and that is when he also started playing on PS5. He could have recorded the footage on PS4 if that was his purpose.

@HelloIm: Looks like you found your answer? He was comparing BC vs native on the same machine. Of course as a normal user you would play the PS5 version with short loading times.

              • @HelloIm: Okay, well I think you might just be confused about how the upgrade system works then. You can still download the PS4 version onto your PS5, but when you insert your PS4 code or PS4 disc into the console it also activates the PS5 version.

I think what has happened here is that for the early review codes, they don't come with an upgrade (hence why he received an extra code), but all commercial copies of the game will when the console launches.

This is NOT the case for all cross gen games mind you, so you'll have to look for the 'upgrade available' badge on the game.

  • Yes, there should be a PS5 upgrade patch which I think would be unavailable after the PS5 is launched. I've also read that the PS4 controllers will still work on the PS5 so long as the game isn't patched. Once patched, only the PS5 controllers will work and you'll get ray-tracing, etc. The only real benefit of not patching the PS4 game to PS5 is quicker load times, up-scaled graphics (similar to PS4 pro), and the ability to use PS4 controllers.

    • It's not a patch, both versions are entirely different skus on the console. You'll still have access to the PS4 version, but you receive the PS5 version for free.

So basically the PS4 disc acts a the license key for the PS5 digital version?

        • Yep exactly :)

          • @Tiges98: Wish there was a way for the PS5 to snap the disc and make it a real digital game.

I'm pretty sure most people will reliase the PS4 version of the game is slower to load on the ps5. But for those that don't. Thanks for the PSA
