  • Shows at $467.99?

    • That’s if you buy from Australia

Scroll down and it will say $392 from 3rd partys click that.

  • -2

It doesn’t support 4K HDR, Dolby Vision/ Atmos, HDMI 2.1 passthrough. You don’t have an actual reason to buy this.

    • +4

Even if it did support those, you still don't have an actual reason to buy this

Unless you're trying to relive your winamp visualiser glory days?

relive your winamp visualiser glory days

Thanks for the flashback! nervous twitch

        "Whip the llama's ass"

      • Bring back the glory days… Lama's Ass + Milk Drop + e's + Trance + Mrs… still with her, but we haven't had good times like those in almost 2 decades.

        looks cool for console gaming

    • +2

      Yes it does.

*Compatible with Dolby Vision, 4K, and HDR10+

      • Is it a new version? I am almost sure the original did not support HDR

    • +2

The box had a major update, an now supports Dolby Vision and HDR, Atmos.
No support for HDMI 2.1 though

Doesn’t it? What a POS haha
Personally I think these are distracting and would drive me nuts.

  • I did think of getting this. I think this is sent from the UK so the adapter would come with the UK power plugs. I believe you can plug these with the Philips play or light strip adapters.

  • Those with HCF. You can buy Amazon gift cards at 5% to bring this cheaper

    • Assume these have s 1% cc fee??

Almost 400 bucks to sync lights to your contents …

    • Exactly. It sold be something pretty simple, yet so solutions to do this require very expensive equipment. There used to be a few tvs that has this incorporated, not sure how well that worked though

    • Sadly that price is about roughly what it takes these days, for an "all in one" box that takes hdmi and does the thing without a seperate computer or processing that you setup for it. It is annoying because things like lightpack showed promise before they went under.

      • Agree. Lightpack was good, but…

    • lol its ridiculous

  • -2

It doesn't support drm contents apparently. So netflix app or prime videos will not work

    • +5

I own it. It does support DRM, 4K HDR, Dolby Vision/ Atmos, etc. About the only thing it doesn't support is HDMI 2.1 / 8k. So much bad info in this thread.

      • Thanks for the confirmation bud, did you have any problems in setup? Any recommendations or suggestions for do's and dont's?

        Cheers

Nothing overly specific but some general advice:
          * use decent quality cables if you are doing 4K HDR/DV (Cablematters and kabeldirekt are decent, not offensively priced and on amazon). Some users have reported signal drops w/ lower quality cables.
          * use ports 2 and 4 on the switch if you are doing 4K HDR/DV (these ports have the highest bandwidth for some reason….)

It's a pretty decent 4k HDR/DV switch too! I use it as a switch more often than it's being used as a light sync. You can control it with Alexa or Harmony remotes (which is awesome).

Firmware is updated pretty regularly. My only annoyance really is that it doesn't have ethernet (well, that and the ridiculous rrp, but I'm already so far down the hue rabbit hole so YOLO). I'd consider a second unit at this price (I paid RRP) but I might just wait for a local sale.

          • @Jimbobbler: Thanks bud , all in all it looks like a good addition to your Hue eco system . Yes, you are right even with this sale price, it seems bit excessive. I too will wait for another year or so for a cheaper price point.

            Thanks for the reply :)

          • @Jimbobbler: By any chance when you got it does it come with different power plug attachments? Sometimes you buy a Philips product you can swap out the plug from America or uk to the aus version etc. I want to buy this from Amazon UK but worried it will come with a cable that can’t be changed to aus

    • I thought this was only when the apps were on your TV?

  • I'm using my Shield Pro to achieve the same result using the "Hue essentials" 3rd party app (paid version). Obviously doesn't do HDMI passthrough or DRM so using Kodi and Youtube as a work around.
I'm running 6 Hue Plays and 2 Hue Go's setup behind and around the TV. My kid loves watching kids TV shows and movies with the colourful lights synced to the TV. Spiderman into the Spiderverse looks epic, this type of movie really suits the light setup.
I use the effect for white ambient light when watching movies and the colour effect for music videos, 6ix 9nine music videos are crazy colourful and go off.

    • Do you experience any lag in that setup? I mean, any bigger lag?

  • I've got one x play light. Will this work ok with just one light?

Also, I like the 4 inputs, as my TV only has 2. I'm getting another HDMI device soon, and was looking for something to expand my TVs limitation regarding the lack of HDMI inputs. Do you think this might be worth getting one of these with all this in mind?

    • Yeah I got it as much for needing a switch as well as the light sync. It works great as a switch.

I have 3 play lights behind the TV (left/top/right) and a strip underneath behind my media unit.

  • Would be good with the gradient lights they've got.

    • What else would it be good with? (Legit question)

edit: From what I know, this device is specifically for the lights you've mentioned.

      • Can be used with any of the Hue coloured lights e.g. Hue Light strip, Hue Play, Hue Go and Hue Colour ambience bulbs etc

        • Correct - literally anything hue can be added to the entertainment area. Non-hue (zigbee) cannot be added to the entertainment area so that's a bummer.

Im using the Govee Dreamcolor, working well so far, just wish camera didn't stick out so far. What I like is that I don't have to worry about any HDMI/HDR/software compatibility issues. Plus it's cheaper than overpriced Hue box. Also works with broadcast tv and tv apps if needed. Next step is to get it to work with home assistant to turn on automatically with tv.

    • I was looking at the AmbiVision - what made you go with the Govee?

      • I got it six months ago, not sure if ambivision was available at the time. Govee was cheapest and most importantly actually available to order of all the ones I researched. Most others I found were either hard to ship to Au, more expensive, or needed some serious diy hacking/installation.

    • That looks like so much better, versatile solution.

Does it work with Hue or other brands in general? How's the lag?

I have Hue lights ove Hue bridge and a computer with Hue Sync connected to the TV over HDMI and the outcome is 100% satisfying to me. I mean, apart from that I need to involve the computer to watch with the lights synced.

It uses own lights, cannot add more that I'm aware of. Wouldn't want anymore anyways. Lag is ok, I got it thanks to this guy's review. Just wish I didn't listen to him also about the RM Pro which by the way is poo.

I also considered your solution and using my nvidia shield to do the same but read about all the possible issues with it not working correctly with certain programs like Netflix, etc and decided I just wanted something simple.

      • just that with the PC, you have to compromise a bit when it comes to DRM stuff.
        - Netflix - for example - will work with some browsers (not the app) but will be capped to 1080p;
        - Same for Disney+
        - Plex/Embi - I haven't tried it.

        Hope this helps.

  • Can anyone confirm that this product from amazon UK that the power plug is interchangeable so I can use it on aus wall outlets… sometimes you can change the plug type over as they give you a few options in the box like aus or uk or us etc

    • It doesn't matter because you can power it from the Hue power supply that your lights are already using, so you don't need to use the one that comes in the box.
The Play light power supply has multiple outputs…
