Gaming Computer/Tower for Son Starting Uni

Hi, I want to buy my son a gaming computer/ tower for a Christmas/ graduation present, I don’t want to spend to much money and there is no way I can make or built one myself (I still haven’t worked out how to set up my fetch tv). I know it needs to play Phasmaphobia, Rocket League, Skyrim and those sort of ‘big’ games also might be used for uni stuff. I also need to know if I can attach it to his tv or does it need a computer monitor. I am in qld. Thanks for any help.
I did find this one Dell Precision 3420 Gaming PC i7-6700 3.4GHz 32GB Ram 1TB SSD 4GB Nvidia GTX1650 - Refurbished Grade A for $$1,399.99!

not sure if it’s any good.

What you linked is not a good deal, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/577276 is a much better deal, especially for gaming.

That's probably a bit too serious for his needs. This would do perfectly fine, or even message Luke for something in that sub $1,200 range, I don't think you'd need to pay more than $1,200 for a perfectly good machine.

you may want to ask your son if he has laptop requirements - as it might be ideal to dock a laptop with good ram, cpu and gpu to a 34inch monitor for school work and gaming.

    • Gaming laptops are incredibly expensive. They are also huge and have bad battery life, which are the opposites of what a student needs in the classroom.

Don't buy refurbished, you can't trust it.

Recommend something with a good warranty, at the very least a mail-in back-to-base (PC Case Gear, Computer Alliance, off the top of my head) warranty as you seem to not know anything about computers. Perhaps paying extra for something from a physical Harvey Norman or JBHifi might be worth it, as you can take it directly to the store.

Items you need at very minimum: 16GB RAM, solid state drive. A good CPU and GPU are a must, but there's too many variables here.

Glad to hear. The Dell you mentioned is AWFUL for the money.
