Hisense Q8 4K TV Reviews

Hello there can anybody tell me if they own a Q8 hisense TV?

It appears to have alot of good specs for the price which is around $1999 currently.

I'm really hoping the price gets down to $1500 on black Friday?

Just curious if anybody can give me the real world review of using this brand/model?

I'm hoping to get 65 inch if possible.

Thanks.

I've got the 85Q8 and am pretty happy with the TV considering I paid just over half the price compared to the equivalent model Samsung (Q80) and Sony (X95) at the time.

The 65" and 85" both come with an integrated soundbar which is decent, though I am not an audiophile by any means. VIDAA is not the greatest OS but can be remedied with an AppleTV or Shield.

Quality Control could definitely be improved as I had to have my first panel replaced due to some debris which made its way onto the panel during the manufacturing process, but it was replaced by Hisense without too much hassle. There have also been reports of these TVs being a panel lottery, with many people complaining of Dirty Screen Effect, poor panel uniformity, banding and blooming. There has also been an issue with the FALD "blanking" during black screens which has been addressed with a firmware update.
I did not experience any of the above issues with either panel, but both did have the blanking issue.

There has been a lot of conversation regarding the Q8 models over on Whirlpool where you will find many reviews on this TV - both positive and negative.

    • Well that's unfortunate about the screen issues…

I can't comment on how prevalent these issues are, as it may just be a case of a vocal minority, but it is something to keep in mind.

That being said, it is one of the best bang for buck TV's on the market IMO.

        • It should be covered by warranty I'm sure? I love HISENSE products. This TV Q8 seems to have everything I would need in a new TV.

          • @Willco88: There have been varying levels of success with having the TV replaced under warranty in the whirlpool thread. Others have been able to return the TV to the retailer for an exchange/refund.

    • The FLAD blackout for starfields in the 75Q8 was not adjusted in that firmware update.

    • How much do you end up paying for it if you don’t mind me asking?

I bought 65Q8 about a month ago and it I am amazed by the display quality. Amazing blacks, near true colour, great panel with low reflection. VIDAA os was good so far, very snappy. The integrated sound bar is good for a TV and is very loud. Contrary to the reviews, I found minimum to no quality loss even at angles from the side. I would recommand.

p.s. i compared the TV Side-to-side to an Oled, very minor difference in the display quality for the huge difference in price.

    • There's great to hear :) hopefully they go lower than $2000

They are excellent for the price.

On top of what Datty said,

There is a jump in colour between cream and orange, so skin will occasionally have large orange blobs on it.
If you output Atmos from the TV via ARC you can't receive 10 or 12bit content via HDMI (HDR+/Dolby Vision usually converts to HDR using a Shield).
Blacks are inky but if a video has low dynamic range either black will be a traditional LCD black or there is a large gap between 100% and 99% black.
Smooth motion creates pixelation around fast moving objects. It can also remove deliberate camera shake.
Brightness adjustment only affects brightness, not the limits, so adjusting it creates crushing or massive over saturation.

    On the other hand

Lag is low in game mode
Image looks amazing for the price
    Blacks are excellent for LCD
Smooth motion looks great with slow panning scenes
Smooth motion rarely causes soap opera effect

    • Well I don't have the budget for high end TV

    • My mate bought 65RU7100 Samsung

      • Q8's have significantly better picture and will play Dolby Vision/Atmos content from the built in Netflix app if you subscribe to to 4k.

Q8's requires you to accept in menu ads for some of the smart features. What it appears to mean is undeletable app shortcuts on the second row of the Homescreen. This isn't a big issue as most features have dedicated remote buttons. The smart remote has an additional two programmable buttons.

Samsungs and LG's have a habit of displaying significant banner ads in their input selection menu's. They have 'smart' remotes requiring you to use these menus to change most inputs

Other than these differences they are fairly similar..

        • Seems like most TVs have ads

          • @Willco88: There is a noticeable difference in the impact. Q8's (currently) are the better experience. I write currently as LG and Samsung add the ads around 6 months after setup.

            • @This Guy: Yea I'm intrigued but I hope they come down to like $1500 👍

  • For those who already have the Q8 Model, what are the picture settings out of the box? I have tried looking up recommended settings/tweaks on youtube and in online forums but most info is in relation to U.S Models and I'm not sure which one is equivalent to the Q8? Cheers
