1.5kw Solar Panel System for $1,491 - True Value Solar

111

Was looking for a 1.5kw solar system for my house and came across this deal.. i had a few quotes and this by far beats them all..

1.5kW = $1,491 or $1,691(Zone 4)
1.9kW = $2,684 or $2,984(Zone 4)
4.1kW = $7,963 or $8,463(Zone 4)

I have registered at their website but have to see what brand they offer.. but its a bargain price regardless IMO..

Any thought if you think otherwise??

Amazing how when the rebates drop, so does the price.
Solar panels aren't that cost effective at the moment.

    • Agreed completely.

I recall prior to the Govt scheme expiring earlier in the year . .get in now . .once in a lifetime opportunity. etc etc..

I think the 1.5KW system can definitely be cost effective at that price.

If it saves you $100 a quarter you will recoup your costs in 4 years. That seems pretty decent to me. A friend has a 1.6KW system and he saved over $200 on his last bill. Obviously where the panels are positioned and your location in the country will impact this, but I think the 1.5KW system at that price is worthwhile.

Anyone that signs up with TVS needs to make sure you get what you order, they have a habit of telling you all about CEEG panels and then installing something else. Make sure you order quality parts and triple check that's what they bring out and install.

  • can you get this deal if you already have a solar system installed? I'm after another unit for the other side of the house :)

    • You can, but you wont get a rebate for the second system. so dont look at this price.

I installed a 1.9kw system with True Value solar a few months back, overall experience has been excellent, from installation to post installation service.

1.9kW = $2,684 is a great price, just need to check how many panels you are getting, there is no point getting a 1.9kw system (inverter) where the total output capacity of your panels is 1.5kw (usually 8 panels)

    • That isn't absolutely true. It depends on the roof facing, pitch etc. Certainly at optimal conditions during the peak of the day you are producing more than can be processed, but in the shoulder hours, you are producing roughly 33% more power (1.9/1.5).

  • I got 3.2kw system with 16 panels at 6200$ with true value solar i dont know now if thats a goos deal or not. At the time i got it installed the minimum i was getting was 7k to 8k quotes

    • Do you know the manufacturer of the panels?

True Value Solar is one to avoid. There have been many complaints about them over the years.
They are the newest manifestation of a much loathed group of people who previously traded under numerous names (National Solar Group, State Solar Services). Some people have a good experience with all their previous manifestations (there are always some good stories!), but they often ran out of money and people got stung. Then they just shut up shop, change their name and start again.
    AVOID.

i installed one of their systems about 6 months ago and its been working ok.

but one day i got a call from them saying that they wanted to audit my system and were going to send an independant auditor. they didn't exactly say why.. just said it was a checkup for my benefit.

the auditor told me that there had been HEAPS of dodgy practices/installations by this company, and that i was in the earlier rounds of auditing in SA.

turns out he said my install was not bad, just required a few fixes and stickers.. no big deal.
(which required some other guy to come out and do them another day)

but he said that other ones hes seen, had like more than an A4 page worth of problems, some were even potentially deadly.. like where that inverter box had electricity going through it (i dont know the technical term) and if you touched the box you would get shocked.

also he said that some government agency in SA said they wanted him to audit ALL TVS installations in the coming months.

so personally mine was ok, but be warned i guess.

    • +1

yeah but they outsource the installations, so not 100% their fault…

i've read heaps of dodgy things, was going to avoid them, but then my mate and a few others got theirs installed - no issues what, done quickly etc… probably overloaded for the rebate.

thinking i might give them a try… dont want to spend to much but would hate to regret it later, the 1.5 at that price is awesome!

If your in WA awomansspark have them for $1491 at the moment. I got mine from them a few months ago at $2500 and they were in and installed within 3 weeks of placing the order.

  • Spoke to them, apparently CEEG panels are provided but to guarantee it, you have to pay $25 extra per panel, a total of $400 extra.

    No thanks.

do you have any personal experience with them?

I sort of do not trust the online reviews a 100%..

lets be honest, you will only find a handful of people who will actually go to forums and appreciate how good they feel about the install and service. on the other hand you will find scores of people whenever they have had a bad experience people go on and on and on about how bad the service was in every forum…

      Anybody disagree??

    • That's appalling!
Guess where there is money to be earned, there are scams to be seen!

far out…. no wonder im so sceptical in dealing with small businesses. you try and support local business, and then you get reamed like all those stories you linked to. thanks for sharing krrunal.

I am going with Sonnen Power ($11,677 for 5kw system):

    http://sonnen.com.au/pricing

Nice thing about them is that they install in 4 weeks and don't take any money until it has been installed.

Also, wasn't able to find any negative comments about them or the Delta inverter that comes with this deal.

But the TVS pricing has me reconsidering whether I got a good deal…

    • +1

haven't heard of the Delta inverter but I don't think TVS parts are top shelf, otherwise they would cost more. The specs of the panels are well within what I thought were common industry specs. In a way it's a case of you get what you pay for, but with TVS I beleived I paid the cheapest price and got at least mid range parts, so overall was happy with the result considering the money I spent/saved. I was expecting the panels to be cheap/performing at the bottom of the scale, but I am more than happy with the output my TVS panels produce.

I’m not defending this company as there is just so much negative comments everywhere about them, including current affairs criticism, but my experience with them has been positive. I think a lot of it centers around South Australia as each state trades as a separate company/division. My experieince is with TVS QLD (based on the Gold Coast from memory) I must reiterate a previous comment about everyone is quick to post bad feedback but very few people take the time to post positive feedback – I get that in my line of support work as well as we only every heard from the ‘complainers’

I ordered the 2.0kW Growatt invertor package (with 10 x 190 panels) back in June 2011 for $3699 with a promise of 14 weeks installation. Now here is MY ADVICE, after paying the compulsory $1000 deposit on ordering, I was contacted about 8 weeks later to begin the installation process and as expected was advised the balance is now required. “Do you want to pay by bank deposit or cheque on the day” As most people don’t have cheque books anymore I said bank deposit and asked when installation would be scheduled and was told someone would get back to me after payment had been received. I thought about this for 24hrs and decided after reading all the deal tactics that paying by cheque on the day would be a safer option. Called them back and told them I now needed to pay by cheque, they noted this and said someone would call back closer to the installation date (still 5-6 weeks away by original timeframe) got a call 2 weeks later, can we install tomorrow, sure I said, “Will you have your cheque on arrival?” No problem, will get a bank cheque organised today. System went in the following day, installation looked neat/professional, they even replaced a previously broken roof tile with a spare I had just found.

There was an issue submitting the paperwork as the incorrect retailer was listed but they sorted that when I requested they amend it and resubmit.

System has been running 4 months now, digital meter went in 40 days after paperwork was sorted (Energex quoted 48 days) and with the increase in sunlight/heat the system has been generating 12kW a day (was 7 - 9kW back in Aug-Oct)

I bought a 1.5 kw system from them a few weeks ago - couldn't be happier.

    • +1

Sorry re all my long winded ramblings above. My point/advice for anyone that does go with TVS is pay by cheque as IMHO they are more likely to get your system installed ASAP as they need to keep the money flowing in and don't get yours until they install. If you pay by bank deposit then wait for a confirmation date, that date could continue to get pushed back time and time again from what I have read as they already have your money. When I changed my mind and paid by cheque and then got a call to install the next day I immediately thought I had just 'taken' someone's spot that had already paid up.

  • +1

Like I said, a company like that will always have happy customers (probably over 50%). The problem is that their rate of unhappy customers is higher than most and those that are unhappy are on average more unhappy than others. I wouldn't freak out if you have purchased through Tru Value Solar. Your panels may not be the best quality but it will probably be OK. It's just safer to avoid a company like this.
The key factor against them is not the complaints (every company has them and us consumers can never quantify the proportion of complaints) but their history of trading under different names.

Great prices… especially if you want to add value to a rental or soon to be sold property. Unforyunately, they don't cover the ACT.
