Free Web Dev Training, Too Good to Be True?

Just stumbled upon this free 3 month frontend development course being offered by an organisation called "Generation" in partnership with Academy Xi.

https://australia.generation.org/programs/become-a-web-devel…

As far as I can see the only requirement is that you're not already in full time work, can commit to 5 days a week of training online and live in Melbourne or Sydney.

I was about to drop 2k on this course being offered by RMIT as I want to re-skill from Digital Marketing into Web Design/Frontend Development

https://www.rmit.edu.au/study-with-us/levels-of-study/short-…

But now I'm thinking if I can get the same or similar training for free… should probably go for that one right?

Anybody have any insights on the Generation program?

Cheers!

  • Do it, then apply for RMIT, and if you find that before census date arrives, you can always cease studies if you find the whole thing overlaps somewhat.
The frees study could just be something to get you up to speed.
I have studied at RMIT and they're pretty professional, mind you classes seem a little large to start off with then get reduced as people drop out.
This could be the perfect thing for you till C19 is in the bag.

  • +1

It's not free, the government will be paying them money for converting you from "unemployed" to "full time student". It makes their Centrelink/unemployment numbers look better. There probably isn't anything wrong with the course itself.

    • This.

      • interesting!~

  • Front end is good- substantially wider than at the turn of the decade in 2010. Going into website development, do consider long term with full stack as opposed to solely frontend.

  • wow, this looks really good and exactly what I was looking for. I'll apply. Thank you
