oh a definite '+' for challenging COTD, this will go well :D

    • +4

Supplier is not happy at the imitation of their board. We have the original brand at a better price and it is an awesome board! Who knows what components go into the copy?

      • Good on you for bringing the challenge to CotD. When it comes to bargains, the more competition the better.

With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if both boards are identical (apart from the branding) and that they both are manufactured out of the same factory.

With respect, you must be kidding yourself if you think that one no-name company is going to go the effort of actually counterfeiting another no-name company's product (as opposed to using the same OEM).

        • Apparently, according to the distributor, it was his original design and was offered to unnamed retailer 3 months ago and sample left with them to consider purchasing. 3 months later there is a copy. You draw your own conclusions. :)

        • +2

3 months later there is a copy.

if it's an illegal copy, it should not be allowed through customs, why doesn't your supplier report it ?

  • -3

these always sell for $25-$35, i bought one a couple of years ago…

no way this sells for $149

    • Hi JV, I would suggest you check as this one has many more features, it was not available 2 years ago! it includes USB Ports and much more.

      • can you show me who sells it for $149 ???

        • +1

they want to sell it as $149 but now decide to charge $24.95..haha

        • -2

          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1255509381726/monster…

Please check above link At Harvey Norman without USB Ports and missing many of the features this has. Distributor sets rrp at $149 and we will only be able to do this special price for a few days as they are unhappy with the blatant copy being sold elsewhere! There is nobody else selling this exact board

        • -5

Please check above link At Harvey Norman

I meant a store where people buy at the advertised price, not a store with artificially inflated prices…

        • -2

as they are unhappy with the blatant copy being sold elsewhere!

if catchoftheday have imported these illegally, why don't they report them ?

        • comparing a different product (Monster vs Arista) in price is lame!

why not comparing a BMW with Suzuki?

      • -1

How can you compare a Monster brand (as much of a wank they probably are) to this thing?

+1 if you've never heard of Arista.

        • The harvey norman one(monster) has master/slave function that's why it costs more , so i agree, you can't compare two different items! having said that, i have to confess that i've just bought an Arista :)

        • 3/4 of the price of the Monster board is to pay for their expensive lawyers so they can sue any company they want and bully them into paying them off.

  • +4

Umm there is no way this protects 240V at 90000 amps, what a ridiculous claim. That board would be a little puddle on the ground with that ampage.

    • no one has lived to prove otherwise though… :O

      • It is maximum spike of 90,000 AMPS if you can live to tell the story :)

      • yes…no one will alive and no one will try to prove it.

        • +5

          Where are the Mythbusters!!?

    • +1

That's not the continuous current, it's the surge current. It's to be read along with the joule rating, see here:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector

As to whether the numbers for this product are credible or adequate, I have no idea.

      • If you had 90000A of induced current from a direct strike on your TV antenna the cable that feeds the diverter would melt and combust(most likely exploding) and destroy any equipment you had connected anyway. Diverter Amp ratings are useless because you don't know what voltage the spike is going to be at and if the voltage is large enough, its going to arc across the broken down MOV regardless of what current is being fed to the board.

        • your equipment will be dead, but the surge protector will survive !!!

        • It depends on the duration of the spike, which together with the current profile gives the energy. Whether it's adequate for the situation you posit, I have no idea. But surge protectors are standard electronic components so someone must have a use for them. You can of course be sceptical how much use they are in real life. Those specs are most likely taken from that of the SP in the board.

        • I smell Thor!

  • catch of the day wording

"Expect to pay up to $149 or more for a unit with this feature set, today it's going for next to nothing!"

    eSold wording

"Expect to pay up to $149 or more for a unit with this feature set Today it's going for next to nothing"

    ??? Plagiarism ???

    • so catch of the day copy their product and hence eSold copy their wording? or another way around..
confusing..diffiuclt to know which one is the Original.

      • +9

        Payback? :)

        • TOo bad. Went to order 3 of these until I tried to check out and had to register first. Can't be bothered.
          When will these places learn…

      • maybe they both the same, don't be suprising these days on internet, you never know!

        • Hi FerretalliCa, The reason you are required to register on any site when purchasing is, so we have your address and contact details to send you your order. It would be impossible to do otherwise. The very act of ordering on any website requires some form of registration. I hope that helps. :)

        • @handelbert - sorry, but that's not true. There are quite a few sites around which allow you to check out as a Guest, whereby your details are used to fulfil a particular order only.

    if free delivery, meSold!

    • +1

      same here.

  • +1

BTW, the price is quite cheap if it really "Original".

  • -1

You have two versions on your site and they look different

    http://www.esold.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id… <is 24.95

    http://www.esold.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id… <is called original and is $139

    which is the original?

    • moreover, why your site don't list product no?

    • LOL~it shows "Product sold out, unavailable or discontinued." for that $139 one

      Wonder what happen~

      • That's just the old style previous model, its $2 cheaper ($139 RRP/$22.95 sell) but we went with the bigger newer cooler one - the ORIGINAL designer/importer etc has both. Enjoy the board… I'm taking one home tonight to hook my Optus cable etc through - have a great night all!

  • +1

So the price is decent, but does it come with equipment protection warranty like other brand (e.g. Belkin) offers?

Isn't the protection warranty part of the deal with most of these device sold?

    • i would like to know this also - doesnt look like there is any cover for equipment protection

      • Most cheaper surge protectors don't offer any equipment protection warranty, which partly explains the large price difference compared to brand name units that do.

  • UPDATE: We're offering a special wholesale rate for this offer too for dealers - BUY 10 and get 1 FREE & we've calculated a special bulk freight rate for the 11 units to you. Check our offer for more info!

  • +1

    Make free delivery please… then I'm sold…

    • They are quite bulky and we are just covering cost on delivery. This is a killer price and we have a bulk buy deal as well. :).

This price is under normal wholesale price.

If you find 10 friends to buy one, you will get a bulk freight rate and one for FREE so you get yours for free including FREE freight on the bulk freight deal. So it is possible :)

      • Ok la . since you look like a nice guy, I buy it now.. thanks anyway , been looking for this.

  • The specs are great, but are they real? Can we trust Arista?

    • They have been around for over 20 years and been selling through JB, Harvey Norman and other big retailers for that time

  • As an aside… what's happened to COTD's facebook LIKES? Hmmm… :-)

Man, decisions, decisions… I was going to buy a Crest 6 Way Surge Powerboard for $30 at BIG W this week:

    http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/household-electrical/powe…

…often on sale at $20 lately:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/crest+6+way+surge+po…

It looks like great value because it was the "top performer" in Choice testing:

    http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/technology/comput…

Ok, it doesn't have switches :( and USB power outlets, but I can't help feeling that I'm buying this for the peace of mind mostly.

    • As an aside, it was impossible for Choice to Test this one as it has only just landed in Australia and is a new design with so many features. Arista Powerboards have been well respected for a very long time.

      • Thanks for the extra insight, handlebert. I also appreciate your fast replies to everyone else's questions here.

  • Just letting you know that the website crashed for me multiple times, when I tried to change my shipping address, again when I clicked continue to go to paypal. A quick reload made it work but still, thought you ought to know. Am running Chrome version 12.0.722.122.

    • Thanks for the feedback. appreciate it. You are the first to mention that but we will get our webadmin to look into it. cheers

      • I dunno, it may have been my computer, I just tried again in firefox and it worked fine up until I tried to pay by paypal, it got to the paypal "processing" page and just stopped, wouldn't continue and appeared to be frozen, though I could highlight the text on the page. Ended up saying screw it and paying be card.

        • Have looked into your issue Timothy - 100% was a problem with you connecting to the PayPal site. It is absolutely not rare for PayPal to have lag/timeout/error/non responsive issues at all, unfortunately we can't do a lot about that, but don't panic its likely not on your end but in fact PayPal's connectivity or other problem.

Especially coming into Xmas we can expect PayPal's servers to cop a fair bit of traffic and a higher percentage of issues on redirection and during attempted payment. It went through in the end that's the main thing and your shiny new MONSTER board will be on its way soon ;-)

        • +2

Monster isn't a good choice of word here, unless in fact it is a Monster brand board, which I don't think it is.

        • Just to note it did screw up a couple times while trying to change my address which I put in incorrectly in the cart itself.

    • Only Chrome 12.0.722.122 ? ;-)
I'm on 15.0.874.120 m and it wants me to restart to update.. ;-)

Seems like a great product here though.

  • <double post removed>

The cable looks a bit thin, if they skimp on what you can see, I wonder what's under the cover that you can't see.

    • +1

The cables not thin, nice thick cable and sturdy quality board - nice spot though, I was a bit over active on cleaning up the picture for the site with the magic wand and eraser. It is quite a thick cable that picture is a bit trimmed, I see what you mean… that "looks" thin! :)

      • Thanks for the clarification. It's good to see reps actively addressing customer concerns. Thumbs up!

  • +1

Is there a equipment claim warranty with this item if a surge happens to go though and damage the connected equipment like the Dick Smith surge boards have?

    • +2

I will have to check tomorrow, I know the previous Arista model came with an equipment insurance, not sure on this one.. we never had a claim and barely any warranty returns and we sold over 3000 of those last time around.

  • +1

Damn.. I got the one from COTD already.. sigh.. Is it too late to cancel that order?

    • It's too late once you've created an account…

  • I added 10 Qty to the cart, and the freight cost is $20.45 (Postcode: 2134). Will I get one extra free automatically? In addition, isn't it the delivery free for Qty 10 or above?

  • Bought

  • I just bought x4. Perfect timing needed a few for my new house.

  • Hi Rep

I just bought a board yesterday, but this is such a good deal that I decided to buy one more. Can I add to my existing order and have 2 boards delivered at $7??

    • I am not the rep, but I found extra shipping cost is $1.50 per unit. (ie. $8.45 shipping cost for 2 unit)

    • Hi JPwong, you will need to email support for that. :)

      • Emailed support and got told we can't add one more board to the order and I have to create a whole new order ie pay $7!

Ah well, looks like I won't be getting another board :(

  • Hi all, just a courtesy heads up - if anyone is thinking of getting one of these or know friends that are, we are close to running low. Not a marketing push to get more sales, potentially these will be sold out in the next 24 hours or so. Thanks for the support on this great offer everyone - hopefully we're back soon with another killer offer.

  • Does anyone know which 1000mA scheme the USB ports use? Will it charge iStuff or HTC/Nokia's (or both) in A/C mode?

    • It's just high power usb.. can charge bigger battery faster.
      Will charge them all well.

  • This has been sold out since last night…… Did report it, but I assume the mods are resting after the 'Apple sale" debarcle…..

  • Sold out…

  • +1

    Got a few more :)

  • Yep, I wasn't happy when I missed last time but I now see that there are more available. I just ordered one a few minutes ago.

  • looks like i got the last one

  • Are there any more likely?

I had trouble all day trying to create an account and when I finally got it to work, the powerboards were sold out.

  • I just received mine, fast delivery but the usb port is not charging!!!

    • i got mine yesterday and it charges fine( even my ipad1)

  • Then as i opened second one i ordered it's charging fine, But the first one only charges for one sec as i connect the power to the power source!! OP What should i do?

  • +1

I bought two. Although they work I must say they are pretty crappy quality. Both have very stiff and difficult to plug into sockets. Definitely not worth anywhere near $149 RRP

    • Agreed build quality is pretty poor, certainly worth no more than the $25 it cost in this deal.
I will try out the USB ports to charge my Incredible S later today.

    • hmmm….. I wondered if these might be seconds or returns……

Both the boards I bought had at least one unusable socket and on opening, the cable had clearly been unraveled at some stage, and the cable tie was not securely attached.

      I wouldn't buy them again

  • I bought one of these and of the 8 sockets on the board, only one of them would accept any of the six plugs in my entertainment system. The other sockets wouldn't even let me get anything in half way - they just "jammed" immediately and the plugs were not even remotely in the socket - turning the board upside down would result in everything falling out.

Looking down the sockets as best as possible with a torch, the copper holes that I can see look bent/irregularly shaped.

    • A few sockets on the two boards I bought were very tight and plugs needed to be firmly inserted to get them all the way in, some needed a little force but I managed to get them all way in and all sockets are working.

The only good point about this board is the USB connections, if it didn't have those I would be asking for a refund, though I don't think the USB ports put out 1000mA, as it took about 10% longer charging my HTC Incredible S than the original wall charger that is also rated at 1000mA.

      • My powerbroad blew up within two minutes of use, tripping the residual current device in my switchboard. Very luckily, my PC and monitor survived.

I want a refund from eSold for the two powerboards I bought, but they referred me to Arista warranty support.

I do not trust Arista anymore, and I am unhappy with eSold passing the buck.

        • We have sold a few thousand of these, so a few problems are bound to arise with a small amount of any product. The warranty is fully covered by Arista and also us. You can return for a replacement or call arista and they will replace directly.

  • Been using mine and I can also confirm the sockets are very tight in some sockets, and some sockets just dont feel like the plug is all the way in. A very cheap quality board, no way it would be worth the "RRP $149". Not sure if I would buy anything from eSold again after this.

    • you… and anyone else, can revoke your vote by clicking here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57733/votes

then finding your vote and revoking it.
You can't add a neg, but at least you can take away a positive.

      • When I try to do mine it says that I cannot revoke after 72 hours…
