It sure is, damn all those people that need a ute, they are just scum.
People who need a ute is a small category and they aren't all buying Hiluxes. The vast majority of Hiluxes you see on the road never engage 4wd or put anything that wouldn't fit in a hatchback in the tray.
Does that make them "meatheads"?
@brendanm: Course not, but a lot of them are.
@[Deactivated]: A lot of them are just getting it as it's easy to do as a tax write off.
JULY 6, 2018
And…?
2 years before the pandemic 😷
Ah.. the good old days 😉
Does "BC" now mean "Before Corona"?
Snake 4
Make up a list of all small diesel turbo motors from all makers with consistent faults. That should keep you busy for a while.
Tradie 4x4 are driven until the KM are high then just scrapped mostly. No one wants a 150,000km 2016 Nissan patrol or Toyota hilux.
4x4 have and always will be money pits long term.
Lol, you have no idea mate.
Tell me magically where those 100k of 4x4 sold each year vanish too while you see 20 year old patrols, bt50 and such survive?
My family was part of a 4x4 group, people can’t afford the long term running costs. Reality is so most are scraped without ever having a crash.
Lol, yep, all those pieces of shit are just scrapped. So expensive to run.
They don't vanish at all, other than crashed/very old examples. The Australian vehicle fleet composition is being rapidly converted to SUV/Light Commercials at the expense of non SUV passenger vehicles:

https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/industry/tourism-and-trans…
There is no evidence that they get scrapped at 150k/4 years old, the idea that most people that buy a ~$40/50/60/70k 4x4 ute then scrap them every 4 years because they can't afford the running costs is ludicrous - the purchase price to buy one every 4 years would be far higher than the running costs to repair/service.
@Dogsrule: To be fair, many buyers of new will turn them over at 4yr or 150k km. They do it so they don’t ‘lose money’. Fleets will turn them over about that often and that would be a calculated lifespan working out between resale value and ongoing repair costs.
There are plenty of buyers for that age of ute, and even older.
Bought mine with about 140k and 9yo.
@Euphemistic: Oh for sure that happens, but this bloke reckons they get scrapped, not turned over!
@Dogsrule: His mates obviously turn them over, he’s never seen an older one actually owned by anyone he knows. Some would say more dollars than sense.
The prices for secondhand hiluxes with 200,000+kms (and often 400,000km+) shows this is nonsense.
@mskeggs: Absolutely this…
Was watching auctions a few months ago and the prices people were paying for busted arse Hilux and Rangers was just overwhelming. I gave up looked for a decent used dual cab when these vehicles were 300,000km+ and still selling into the $30k bracket.
Dont shoot the messanger.

Do we get a new post for every fault on every car…?
If so, you're going to be very busy
This has some. I used to check regularly, but lost interest. Can set alerts.

.
I'm a pretty big Toyota fanboy, especially for their hybrids, but I don't think their diesels are crash hot. The 3.0D in the previous Hilux had pretty serious injector issues and the 2.2D in the previous RAV4 suffered complete engine failure somewhat commonly.
You wan't something more recent?
Here you go.

BTW space whatever you call yourself. I'm glad you think blown pistons, motor rebuilds, Injectors being replaced, smoke billing from the exhausts caused by faulty DPF burn parameters ok.

Where were you with the Focus gearbox issues?
Where were you with VW and their false economy figures?
Holden Captiva & Cruze issues?
Ford Ranger & BT-50 recalled due to vehicle fires caused by their DPFs
Mazda says it has had 15 confirmed cases of vehicle fires. Ford says there have been “two confirmed cases of vehicles being written off” as a result of fire and “seven confirmed cases of smoke or fires which have resulted in minimal damage” since December 2016.
Cmon, what brand car do you drive? I bet I can find instances where they've had issues
1998 Daewoo Nubira…invincible
Space we are talking Toyota for the fan boys.
You mentioned DPF fires.
Here go. https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/toyota-land-cruiser-fi…
I am not a fanboy of any brand and what I drive has nothing to do with you or anyone else here.
1HDFTE the world!
That is all
/endthread
how correct you are, i cant believe they dumped this top motor for their v8
100% agree.
Do you know where the starter motor is in the V8?
Whats happened to the fanboys?
No answers?
Why are you trying so hard to bait 'Toyota fanboys'? Who are they and what did they do to you?
Not baiting. Just tired of….
Buy a Toyota they last forever.

It is only buyer number two, or three+ that encounter such issues as they tend to skimp on maintenance and source cheap replacement parts.
The original buyer tends to stick to the service warranty, that is like visiting your doctor b4 things get out of hand.
What a load of crap.
You obviously have a comprehension problem.
These vehicles are mostly less than two years old. Some less than one year old.
An independent report has found that 250,000 Toyota vehicles have been sold with a defective system in place, as a class action continues against the manufacturer.
The referee found that the diesel particulate filter (DPF) system in all Toyota Hilux, Prado and Fortuner diesel vehicles sold between October 2015 and April 2020, were defective.
Note how long it's been dragging on for. 5 years.
Note how many vehicles in OZ are effectuated. 250,000.
Note Toyota had to be dragged kicking and screaming for a solution that may or may not work.
https://www.9news.com.au/national/toyota-diesel-filter-syste…
wonder when we get our money and how much? last group member update was in July.
It's a class action… so I'm going to ball park it that the compensation will be between $12.63 and $18.32
For the “victims”. The lawyers will possibly get to add a number of zeros and shift a decimal point.
effectuated
god that hurts my brain
Worst part is, it's actually a real word… :/ (albeit applied incorrectly in this instance…)
You are very excited about this aren't you.
smh
Toyota fan boys don't care about the HILUX. It's what the meatheads buy.
