  • The owner of http://www.onlinefishingtackle.com.au knows the subj

  • What kind of fishing? ie beach, estuary, lure, freshwater?

And what is a 'decent deal' for you - you can get a good quality rod + reel for about $120; many fishermen will say you probably "have to" spend double that for quality. You can find ebay stuff for 1/2 - will be fine if you fish a few times a year.

BCF do deals now and then (but you will probbly not get much advice); the link above looks ok (if 'no name'); motackle has a huge selection (on line).

  • Go and visit a tackle store and get some good advice from those that fish a lot.
That way you will get the right gear (where do you want to fish?) which is going to be better for you than just the cheapest gear.
They shouldnt load you up on the most expensive gear if you are just starting out.
They want to to enjoy fishing as much as they do and be a life long customer.
Advice from these stores is invaluable, they want you to catch fish.

If you are dead set on going dirt cheap then just get a hand line for about $10.

    Complete Angler http://www.compleatangler.com.au/Default.aspx?p=StoreDirecto…
    Is a good start.

    • Shame I didnt see the necro but info might be useful to others.
