28 Degrees Price Protection - Will This Work?

Is there any reason they will reject a price protection claim for this against this?

This is for a mobile phone that's not officially sold in Australia, both are grey import.

I haven't purchased it yet, just hoping that someone can give some advice regarding likelihood of a successful claim based on experience. I have successful claims before but all of them are straightforward case (e.g. purchase from The Good Guys, then they lowered the price).

The reason I prefer to purchase from AmazonAU is for the warranty/support process. It's much easier to get warranty/support/refund from AmazonAU because this item is fulfilled by AmazonAU where they handle after sales support.

Yeh I just claimed a Oneplus phone from Kogan ~$650 with a $540 price listed last week from TobyDeals, both grey imports and was accepted.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience.

A whirlpool user mentioned "Ships Express from Hong Kong Warehouse" might be a problem, which is my biggest concern as well, but it seems like TobyDeals also states "All of the products is warehoused and shipped from Hong Kong", but not highlighted on the product page.

      • I don't think it will be a problem. If you look at the PDS, there's no mention of it being local stock, it only needs to be an Australian retailer.

        • Yeah I've read through the PDS (and also Coles Mastercard Insurance PDS) multiple times. The only ambiguous term is "If you buy an item in Australia…."

Is it me (the purchaser) who has to be in Australia, or the item that has to be in Australia? Based on multiple feedback here, it seems like it's the purchaser and not the item.

I was like 70% sure it would work, but your comment made it more than 90%. Hopefully when I pull the trigger Latitude doesn't give me problem.

          Thanks a lot!

          • @hjk: It's that the business has to have an abn on their tax invoice and pay taxes. So kogan for example sometimes has Australian tax invoice for some white goods but a hk invoice for others (mostly the grey import phones)

    • Do you know if the price protection claim was only accepted because they're both grey imports? This wouldn't work if you were to buy a phone from JB Hi-fi, for example, then submitted a price claim against TobyDeals?

      • I've never had trouble with any price protection claim. As long as the model is the same I don't see why not

  • Yeah that looks fine, as long as you can show model number is the same

  • If you need to return it, you actually make almost $300 ;)

    • The 'Global version' words may be an issue. Good luck

      • I'm sure they are the same model (ZS671KS), so that shouldn't be a problem. Asus is not like Samsung where they have a million different models for basically the same phone.

  • In my exp they don't check the finer details all that much, as long as you fill in the form properly and satisfy some requirements (i.e. it was discounted as a normal sale item, and is the same product) it tends to get approved.

I tend to submit my claims months after I've noticed the reduction without much issue. They have only asked for proof of the reduction maybe once or twice out of dozens of claims.
