Apple iPhone 12 Mini 5G

Hey everyone,

So I'm planning to get an iphone mini - basically my original iphone SE is cactus and treat yo self.
I see alot of debate about iphone and android and I'm no expert on phones, but isn't one of the main reason to go apple due to better privacy? Anyway hopefully that's not opened up a firestorm.

So I'm set on getting one, I see many Iphones 12 are on backorder now due to demand so I think I need to be on it at preorder time and also being able to enjoy it early as available.

So my question is why do people buy it in one place over another? Seems costs are mostly the same? Maybe the power and size of the retailer, positive after purchase care, points etc? Which retailer would make it most appealing to go with them?

Regarding plans I am thinking of going Telstra 5G, they have a 150GB plan for 65 a month (month to month)with other calls etc, seems quite good tbh. I was thinking to cancel my home broadband then and power on, it's just little old me at home.

Considering all this I was thinking hmm maybe just go to Telstra order it, get that plan and get their Telstra plus points which they offer, but I know little about. I have been on Amaysim and the likes for years so not sure if doing it like this is silly for some reason.

Thanks for the suggestions

Categorically true, as much as the haters will sprout otherwise.

Apple doesn't rely on selling your user data to make a quick buck, whereas Google do.

So my question is why do people buy it in one place over another?

At release it's going to be pretty difficult to secure stock, so hardly any will be discounting it.

I'm in the same boat - deffo going to be getting the 12 mini

  • Thanks for the feedback.

With regard to purchases, and value I know alot of people say to get gift cards, to use at JB Hifi to get a 5-10% discount.
I see alot of chat about that on the Iphone 12 forum.

One thing that goes against that is that I tend to make large purchases on my credit card which offers 1 year extended warranty on most electronics, and they offer a price match guarantee so that you can claim against a large price disparity. Of course not everyone has or wants a card like that but worth considering if your card has by chance anyway

if you don't mind sharing details of which card is this (that offers a 1 year extended warranty on electronics)?

      thanks.

If paying upfront buy from apple you have 14 days to return it if you don't like it, or if you get dreaded yellow screen will be easier than JB to just return and buy another.

  • No worries, I have a Visa Platinum Card. It's doesn't have any points or anything but offers International travel insurance if you spend $250 or part there of on a trip, domestic car insurance cover, price drop match and the warranty. It is $87 a year the second year.

I'm by no means a card expert so maybe there's a better deal but seems ok to me. Apparently the travel insurance is pretty decent.

    • ANZ I forgot to mention sorry

  • Have you found any deals for the mini yet?

    • Only advice would be purchasing gift cards for 7-10% off. Probably the best you'll get for Apple.

      • Thank you for replying. I looked into that the 7% gift cards required union membership which I am not eligible for.
10% off giftcards from Ozbargain classifieds seems so risky considering dropping $1300

        • Nah I did it, it was all good. Just check and see if the person you're buying from has a good post/comment history. Even ask to do it via Paypal.
I know I get 5% off or something with my Red Energy electricity account, AGL gets 10%. So might be worth checking if you've got any.

Otherwise I think you can get 3.5% cashback at Shopback for JB gift cards (don't quote me on that).
          Better than nothing!

          • @JoKing: AGL 10%?? I need to find a relative with AGL

            • @ChatCPT: Yeah Im not sure if it's still 10%, but when I got some of my cards it was at 10% off.

  • Not a sausage, just go full price I guess

  • does anyone know if office works/Jbi/TGG/Bing Lee will price match cosco for the mini 256gb?
