  • Thanks op. Was waiting for it to drop again.

My bad sold out on ebay.

I’m a big Mario/Nintendo fanboy, and think Lego is alright, but this just didn’t hit the mark at all for me, I can see why the price is starting to drop.

    • +2

Yep agreed… this Mario thing looks all out of proportion and just not worth the price!

this however is a thing of beauty! SNES

      • Mario thing looks all out of proportion

tends to happen when something is LEGO-fied. I would assume they had to make Mario fit the technology, rather than the other way around :D, but Cool concept tho IMO.

        That's a NES :)

        • +2

hahaha dunno why i had SNES In my head… even typed Lego NES in google search… FAIL!

          • @scud70: My pet hate on FB Marketplace with the classic consoles…. But I know they don't know the difference lol

            • +1

@scuderiarmani: i have a pretty large collection of classic consoles not just Nintendo but Snes is def my nostalgic favorite :)

              • @scud70: Super Metroid and snes, doesn't get any better.

Was my first console bought for me. Had earlier stuff like Atari in the house.

                • @scuderiarmani: Hehe.. I can still remember begging my dad in games Wizards shop to buy it… the pack that came with SF2.. Still have the same box… Its barely staying together… It has to be the most used console i've ever owned… Followed close by N64

      • Hope it’s functional.

    • +1

Yep. It doesn't look great, and there's no real 'game' element to it, despite what they claim. The functionality is more on part with https://www.vtech.com.au/brands/brand_page/toottootdrivers

They would have done better to just make Mario themed minifigs and some awesome sets, but I suspect the licensing costs were so high that they needed to find a gimmick to justify a high price.

They would have done better to just make Mario themed minifigs and some awesome sets,

I think this is so glaringly obvious that it's a major fail on LEGO's part. Of course we just wanted Mario themed minifigs.

Hopefully they bring some out eventually.

but I suspect the licensing costs were so high that they needed to find a gimmick to justify a high price.

Nah I suspect they just got too clever with this idea of integrating electronics and got carried away. Typical committee-style decision making, where you can create a product dumber than any one person would be dumb enough to create on their own.

It's for young kids, they love it.

Sucks for adult fans but this is not a bad product at all, it's super cool and the companion app is quite engaging. There's a little one-way community (can only post, not talk to each other) there with lots of fan creations and custom builds.

That said, just this starter kit is extremely underwhelming, so don't bother if you're not planning to invest in another 3-4 sets.

The gameplay requires young imagination, that's all there is to it, it's like any other largely static toy. Kids can play with this for a longggg time and the slight interactions just elevate it a bit. My set got invaded by other Duplo and LEGO figures and sets really quickly, it's frankly frigging awesome. It has created A LOT of stories.

I don't really see much issue with them getting more aggressive on this particular set, it was well overpriced to begin with. While this seems like a bargain, it's probably what it should have originally released at.

totally agreed!!! my 5yo absolutley loves this and i have no doubt that it is Lego's target audience.with these particular lego sets!

it would be good to drop the price on the expansion sets to really kick this product line off

Watched some of the videos of this on youtube and to be honest, the whole "gameplay" idea of this kit is pretty underwhelming.

    • I agree, imagine how amazing this could have been if they combined it with the Mariokart RC idea - build and race your own carts! It just needed a little more to get it over the line

I like the 2 themes Lego And Nintendo and when they clear it hopefully 50-60% off I'll join the party .
Can't see it though being successful for builders .

This looks suss. It’s duplo and not LEGO
