Once-off Qantas "Flight to Somewhere" Scenic Flight & Stay at Uluru /Ayer's Rock "Sails in The Desert" fr $2449pp @ Qantas.com

57

Once in a lifetime perhaps - but last recently Qantas had their 'Flight to nowhere' scenic flight, now they're flying to somewhere - Ayer's Rock / Uluru!

Cost is $2449 in Economy, $3999 in Business, and you can earn 5,000 Qantas Points and 80 Status Credits in Economy, or 10,000 points and 160 status in Business.

Your weekend adventure

Your weekend getaway starts from 8am in Sydney on Saturday 5 December, and returns from Ayers Rock by 6pm on Sunday 6 December 2020.

Indulge in some bubbles at a pre-flight breakfast event in the Qantas Business Lounge before taking off on board your Qantas 737, enjoying low level scenic fly-bys on departure of the world-famous Sydney Harbour and surrounding beaches.

Relax on board with our inflight hospitality as the aircraft makes its way across our sunburnt country to the heart of Australia and descends to do low level circuits around Uluru and Kata Tjuta with views of the expansive salt lakes of Lake Amadeus. Our highly trained pilots will manoeuvre the aircraft to afford spectacular views for passengers on both sides of the aircraft. At 348 metres high, Uluru is a sandstone monolith around 550 million years old and has special cultural significance for Anangu, the traditional owners.

Land in Uluru and spend 24 hours experiencing one of the greatest wonders of the world, including the full spectrum of the colours of the spiritual heart of Australia. Your whirlwind tour includes a Night at the Field of Light including a three-course dinner under the stars using native ingredients, with a didgeridoo performance and an Indigenous interpretation of the night sky.

When the night sky has descended into darkness, visit the spectacular Field of Lights installation before returning to your room at Ayers Rock Resort’s premier hotel, 'Sails in the Desert'.

Rise before dawn to watch the sun rise over Uluru, then visit the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta and Walpa Gorge before heading back to the resort for brunch.

As your weekend trip of a lifetime comes to an end, return home on your Qantas flight with a final low-level sweep of Sydney Harbour before landing back at Sydney Airport.

Note: the flight path is subject to change due to weather conditions on the day and there may be an alternative flight path which may not take in all these sights.

Is this a deal or just an OzAdvert?

    • Given you can normally only do low flyovers in charter planes, this is pretty great, I thought.

      • +2

Helicopter rides have been available for as long as I can remember.

    • +2

ill consider it as a deal. the pilot will circle around uluru and it include a one night stay with 3 course dinner. one night stay in that hotel is around $500

      • +1

hang on. pretty sure i saw $249/pp before. if its $2449 then its a rip off!!

  • Wait, has NT entry restriction been lifted?

  • +2

    *Uluru

    • was in the tags and description, just tight on space in title. I've updated though as it is important!

      • Except it's name is Uluru.

By your logic, the last person to name a thing gets it.

I therefore declare the Sydney Opera House is now TacoMcBoobsTown (The Second).

      • +4

        Its not important at all

"That's why I'm hell-bent on it being called Ayers Rock, even though I can't even spell it."

I'll always call it Ayres Rock.

      • Ok champ

  • How low are we talking? Similar to the small planes?

  • +4

All I can think of are the flies.

  • Can you pay with Qantas points?

  • +1

This sounds like an ad for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

  • +6

What a joke, 1 nights accommodation and a flight that normally only costs a few hundred dollars for $2.5k PER PERSON.

    Who are they kidding?

  • +3

Not a bargain or a deal - this is an ad …

    December?

    You'll fry like an egg.

  • +3

How is this a bargain? What's the usual price?

    • There isn't a usual price. This is a scenic low flyover of Uluru and Sydney Harbour. Once off. Plus fancy accommodation once you're there. (I say fancy but I've only ever camped there)

  • +5

Wtf how is in any way a bargain? Qantas looks like they're trying to claw money from rich people which, you know, good on them whatever. But $2449 for a weekend is obscene; even rich people can see this is not a bargain

So much jealous salt on this thread, this will sell out instantly. People are just jealous they can't afford it.

  • +4

This is a terrible deal. Much worse than the others and I doubt it will have the same interest. Why not just book normal flights, accommodation, a scenic chopper flight and save at least $1000?

  • I don't know how I feel about this at the moment

  • By my math based on the offerings there is about $1500 PP value there, in terms of what it would cost to do included activities before you include the unique nature of the flight/experience. Uniqueness can drive value and I wish I could afford to do this with the family …

  • +1

To sweeten the 'Deal' they might throw in couple of packs of maggi noodles…hopefully

  • +3

Gonna have to neg this, seems like an ad for a desperate Qantas trying to figure out how to make money. $2,500!

  • +2

Complete rip. Considering the subsidies NT Govt are offering via their tourism board… $2500 goes weeks, not days

  • +1

Low level fly-bys sound good but I have to be pretty skeptical.
The fly-by of the first A350 in Perth was barely visible.

    • From the Qantas website, nothing is guaranteed, and you have to take responsibility for any issues.

Note: the flight path is subject to change due to weather conditions on the day and there may be an alternative flight path which may not take in all these sights.

Before booking, ensure you check the latest Government travel requirements, which may include mandatory health declarations, use of face masks, entry permits, pre-approval and quarantine (possibly at your own expense), or you could be denied entry.

  • +2

2499 to fly to the NT doesn't sound like value to me.

    • +1

because it's not just a flight, it's low level scenic flying, plus fancy accommodation. (well, when I went there I was camping so anything was fancy).

      • +1

I get that, but the value is still quite poor.

      • +1

Its not really low level scenic flying, they may fly a little lower than normal, and maybe fly a little closer to the Rock, but that's about it.

If you want low level scenic flying you need to take a dedicated helicopter or light plane charter.

Flying low when coming back to Sydney is normal, and depending on the wind/weather you may not even fly over the city itself.

Others complained about the lack of sights in their "flight to nowhere".

  • 12 x Business class sold out and only a couple crappy seats left in economy. Seems people like the package.

    • I'm sure those in the 6 Business Aisle seats won't see a lot

As for economy, again those in the Window seats on the correct side of the plane will see "something" those in the Aisle or middle seats have just thrown away their money on a 3 way each ride in a noisy, decrepit, uncomfortable Boeing 737.

    Bad for environment. Negged

    • +1

If that was the criteria for judging then I suspect much of OzB would be axed.
