Would You Ever Consider Sneaker Reps (Replicas) ?

There was a time when I would never consider getting sneaker reps (replicas) but some of the ones coming through these days are pretty damn close!

Yeezys, Jordans, Adidas Ultra boosts, Vans, Balenciagas, Dior, etc.

Currently eying a pair of Off-White Jordan 1 Retro Chicago's but 200 AUD + shipping for a knock off hmmm.

Op why not replace "reps" with "replicas"? I read it as "Sneaker Representatives".

The sneaker game has been killed by bots and resellers. I don’t have any issues people buying reps, as long as they don’t try and resell as legit

    • Are they good shoes to own. Will they last years with gentle wear without falling apart. I wouldn't mind some new cool looking sneakers from the 80s or something, but I'd feel pretty foolish spending $200 on something that can't be used long term as sneakers. I wouldnt' even know where to start with selling shoes, I thought shoes were for wearing not for buying and selling.

      • I have a friend who has an OG pair of RM williams boots and he RELIGIOUSLY cleans them at least twice a week. They look probably even better than the ones on display in the shops haha.

        • I think I want a sneaker that looks good, lasts a long time, and can be cleaned by putting it in the washing machine.

I personally wouldn't. But I don't judge those who buy replicas, be in sneakers watches or handbags.

Those who buy replicas and show it off to others as genuine though, are a different story.

I would judge them. Those smart, smart people.

Not hugely into the sneaker game anymore, but regardless I would never pay resell for shoes. I have a pair of rep glitch oreo NMD R1s (also have some other real NMDs I paid retail for) - they look and feel exactly the same, save for some very minor tells. Has served me well for a few years so far. Don't really care about whether people know or think they are real or not, have always been open with my mates who have asked where I got them from, etc. Same with one of my friends who had a real nice collection of both genuine and rep sneakers. They look good, they're comfy too, can't complain at all.

  • Depends.

If I want to get one of those sneakers that are massively hyped and goes for like 5-10x aftermarket, without a doubt I would get a rep. No way am I paying 500-1500 for a pair of shoes.

If it's anything I can buy retail, then.. retail.

    • Im digging the look of Jordan 4 Retro Union Off Noir.

if you MUST have this particular pair, and there is no re-release on the horizon, I guess by all means go for it. Not sure if you are a wearer or a collector. but I would imagine knock-offs would have no value in the collecting world?

    although I thought knock-offs are like $20? $200 seems like a little too much to pay…………. after all, a knock-off is a knock-off is a knock-off

PS I just found a pair of Jordan 1 (red and black) in a recent garage clean out, it was a re-release from the early 2000s I think, you reckon they are worth anything? :) (obviously they are a bit dusty and moldy lol)

    • Replica Jordan 1’s, for example, the high tier ones (as in pretty much spot on for a real pair, sell for about $200

      • a quick google search shows "Off-White Jordan 1 Retro Chicago" seems to go for thousands of $$$$, so if you must have a pair, I guess $200 isn't too bad, assuming that it is a decent replica.

at the end of the day, buy whatever that makes you happy, who cares what some random on the internet thinks :)

    • Depends how mouldy. Prob worth chucking in fleabay

      • lol I might try to clean them up and see how I go :)

  • No, because I care about my feet . Had bad experiences with lesser quality shoes causing foot pain in the past. I would not trust a replica to care for my foot the way an authentic one would.

  • Not for 200+

    Maybe 100.

  • Curious what's the thinking behind this? Does it not bother you that you pay money for and are wearing a fake product?

I can't justify buying an LV or whatever designer bag, why would I get a fake one and pretend?

    • Im not sure about others but in my instance I would wear the buy and wear the shoes as i genuinely like the colourways/collaborations.
I would never plan to go oh boy yep I totally dropped 2k on these on the resellers market.
Nope these are the top reps money can buy.

I spent 60 hours+ a week in steel caps, I'd like to spend the 5 hours or so I do spent outside of home/work in something that looks nicer and doesnt cost 1 month salary.

      • Fair enough, was just wondering. Thanks for the reply.

    • I think it's a little bit different to buying a traditionally high priced luxury goods like LV or whatever designer bags.

With sneakers, the original retail price is usually no more than a couple hundred dollars.. for the most part. But due to the limited availability, they get marked up significantly in the resale market. A pair of sneaker that goes for $250 retail for example, can sometime be resold for $1500 and because of this, there are now people that uses bots specifically to buy these and resell them which further decrease the availability for regular joe to get a pair.

There's also times where a pair of shoe is sold for maybe.. $200 retail but because of a collab with a brand like Off-white, the same $200 dollar shoe but with a different colourway is now sold for $700. The shoe is not better in quality or anything, it just simply has a new colourway with a brand.

I remember last year, I saw a pair of Nike Air Presto Off-White being resold for like $2500, the regular Nike Air Presto are sold retail for about $200.

Chunky Dunkys Nike X Ben Jerry collab - MSRP 100 USD.

Resell market - nearly 6000 USD LMFAO

        Big oof.

A lot of stores are combatting resellers/bots. Eg; some of the recent Nike Dunk releases (Chunky Dunks for one), the stores made the buyers cut the tags off, and wear them out of the store. Or submit a video of you actually skateboarding to be eligible to buy

Even the recent Jordan Union collab, the bot question for some stores was something really specific about the store (like “what colour is the change room doors in our store?)

  • I bought and sold a lot of reps and real shoes. Reps just don't have the same quality, shoes are not as comfortable and always have flaws. I would just go for something more mainstream and not worry about expensive colourways. You're going to want to wear your comfy shoes over the reps any day. Took a few hundred dollars in reps to realize this, hopefully you won't fall in the same rabbit hole.

  • Its all good as long as you dont try and sell them as legit or tell people they are legit when you are wearing them.

  • Why though? Plenty of mighty fine decent quality sneakers available for reasonable prices, especially on sale.

Picked up some Adidas supercourts for $50 AUD and was pleasantly surprised by the quality/price ratio.

    • I dont think you understand the difference (in desirability) between hype sneakers like Jordan 1s or off white and sacai collabs vs just some random nikes.

      • desirability

only desirable because they artificially limit supply, I'm only interested in shoes readily available in retail which look decent, are comfortable and are durable.

        • Maybe you are, but this thread is about replicas for desirable sneakers not the ones you are buying. No one cares about supercourts.
