Part of Amazon's Black Friday sales, the Jurassic Park Trilogy Blu-ray set has been discounted to USD$29.99, which works out to be around AUD$36 including delivery. Bundle in something else, like LotR Trilogy: Extended Edition [Blu-ray] for USD$49.99 or the Star Trek Original Motion Picture collection listed in this deal, and save on combined shipping now, or wait, as I think the price will be available for most of this week.

The boxset is also on sales at Amazon UK right now as part of a lightning deal (available for the next hour and half, quantity permitting - 70% claimed as I type), but even though it qualifies for free shipping, you end up paying around AUD$38 (after VAT removal). Also available for the next 40 minutes is the Avatar Limited Edition Steelbook [Blu-ray], available for around AUD$18 (with free shipping too - apparently, the free shipping offer is based on the regular price being over 25 pounds, not the lightning price) - it's not the extended edition, but it has a 200+ page book I think.

Both JP trilogy sets are compatible with Australian Blu-ray players (US set is region-free, UK set is at the very least region B, same as Aus)

Update: Another Amazon UK Blu-ray lightning deal just came up - Batman Anthology for £10.17, roughly AUD$16 before shipping.

  • Note: They don't remove VAT on the lightening Deals on the UK site

"The Lightning Deal Discount is the saving against the current Amazon.co.uk site price. The Lightning Deal price is the price paid by all customers and the savings indicated may differ for different tax jurisdictions."

Otherwise it would have worked out ~$32 delivered on Amazon UK.

  • I've never bought a Blu Ray from the US before. How's the region compatibility?

      This set is Region Free

      • Thanks.

    • I use regionfreemovies.com to check if it's region free.

Came to just under $38 from the US site, with postage promised between 18 - 32 days. From the UK site it was just over $39 with delivery promised between 4 - 12 days. And they usually deliver quite quickly, have dealt with them many times. So I ended up going with the UK option. Cheers for the heads up, DVDGuy, nearly bought this the other day for just under $60 from JB, glad I didn't :)

Also, that Batman Anthology is very tasty. I sense a lot of spendings on Amazon today!

I just wish they removed VAT like they normally do, would have made them such better value.

      • Agreed, would have been phenomenal value.

  • Disappointed, I was expecting it even cheaper on Amazon UK! :-(

Anyway, Australia won the cricket, so it was worth staying up. :-)

  • not that I have anything against OP/DVDGuy

Batman Anthology was 9.99(with VAT) in July
how come the so called "Black Friday - Lightning Sale" is more expensive?

    • Yeh it was Au$13.50 + shipping.

    • I agree. None of the UK lightning deals are that attractive, especially because VAT isn't removed for them it seems. The normal VAT removed price the Jurassic Park Trilogy is only about $7 more.

    • Without VAT deducted the Lightening Deals are only so-so for us here. Wonder why the rules change for these products only?

  • I have checked the amazon website, in the product description, they are saying Region 1, whereas the trilogy from Amazon.uk is mentioned as Region Free.

    • For US blu rays check this site if you want to be certain:

      http://bluray.liesinc.net/

It will tell you what is region free and what is not, green = region free, red = locked. Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy US edition is region free.

    • Region 1 is for DVDs, Region A is what you need to be concerned about byt it does say Region A. However, it does thus for all its blu-rays. You need to check other websites to see if it is region free (same with Amazon UK but as we are not affected there is no point). Webiste below confirms it is region free.

Edit: Beaten by sparkles by that much.
