Any Recommended Orthodontist in Sydney? (St George or Shire Area)

Hi all.
I am currently looking at getting braces done and have decided to go with an orthodontist after reading a few thread here and on reddit.

However I am now stuck on which orthodontist to see as they all have a initial consultation free which prevents me from shopping around.

So far I have have read good reviews for

Bexely dental
Menai Ortho
One smile
Aline

Open to hear your experience as Google reviews something can be manipulated. Also happy for you to PM me if you don't feel like posting to the wider public.

Thank you.

  • I didn't get my braces done by these guys but got a much more intense dental surgery done… can confirm Dr Michael here knows his stuff, he's one of the guys that teaches orthodontists.

My current orthodontist recommended me to go here for the surgery.

Not the cheapest but the reviews are real, they also told me to leave one but it's hard you know!

    • Thanks! Will check it out Nd find out how much they cost.

Would you recommend you current Ortho?

      • Yeah, I've been going to my current for almost 7 years now. He's based in Stratty though, closer to where i'm based.

Both are great and really take the time to explain things to you and do the work.

I had mine done at Menai by Dr Michael Counsel in 2003-2005 and it was a very positive experience from memory. I also recall that my parents preferred him because where others wanted to pull some of my teeth out, he went against this which required more work (my teeth were quite bad).

    • Ooo that's good to hear! Might put menai up as on I will atleast try an initial consultation with! Thank you!

      • It's been more than 3 years but I am wondering how was your consult with Dr Michael Counsel ? I am looking for a good ortho at the moment.

        • I felt like it was a v high volume sort of business. he spent abt 5 minutes with me for the consult and then left and i got the recommendation in email.

I would reocmmend Aline orthodonitcs. They won't be the cheapest but i am happy with the results.

  • Nowdays there are some types of braces that require extraction and some that don't, forgotten the name of the ones that don't require extraction, but you want to avoid that if all possible. I remember years ago people getting very upset about how the tooth extraction changed the shape of their face.

    • I read that too! a general dentist told me my bite is okay at the back so no extraction should be needed. Just need to move the teeth at the front.

My eldest daughter was had her braces done at Aline (Luke??) in McMahon St and I thought they were good by her mother wasn't happy. Her mother does have some mental issues about teeth so that didn't surprise me.

My youngest daughter had her braces done at Smile Design Orthodontics and most of the work is done by the female assistants. The old dude there does about 7 chairs at once. They run late even if you are the first booking. We waited 2.5 hours one day. You can't give the guy a mouthful because then he will do a bad job on your childs teeth (He had a shocking attitude). So although he was very good at his job, I wouldn't go there.

This is what scared me when i read their google reviews. Haha, main reason they did not make it onto the list. I am also working now :( Makes little things like this real important now.

Thanks for the input on Aline!
