Could Ozbargainers give me some advice for this dilemma.
I currently have a Xiaomi Redmi 7A which was OK when purchased 12 months ago. However sound quality has fallen away, despite an extra volume app being loaded.
I am after a smartphone of say <$300, which has a good sound volume, with external speaker option. Unlocked if possible.
My sight is good, and I have average tech. ability . Age 75+. Any suggestions?

No idea about phones sorry, but if you are a pensioner you will be eligible for free hearing aids. Don't let them talk you into getting more expensive ones (many people get scammed big time).
Just go to one of those hearing places that are everywhere. My mum (who is 80) goes to National Hearing and has been getting free hearing aids every few years, sometimes she gets one, sometimes she gets two LOL!!
I am 50 with normal hearing (I always get checked when I take my mum for her hearing appointments) and I struggle to hear phonecalls on my iphone a lot of time. Backgrond noise is the biggest problem.
Goodluck, I hope you find a solution.
I have hearing aids with the special setting available for microphone & telecoil. However that feature is mainly switched off and I have an incoming call and must take the phone from my pocket and answer quickly in a variety of noise situations. I usually switch to the speaker phone icon on the screen but that seems to be poor now. Some say that Android phones have inferior speakers to some other types. Is that so?
Pair I have (Phonax) have bluetooth - paid extra - work great for calls/music and if you are driving they have a button (Volume) which you can also press to answer a call.
That means you don't touch your phone while driving just your ear.
Phone is a Samsung A20 - roughly $200.
Have you got hearing aids? If so, is it possible to pair the phone with the hearing aids? If not, maybe consider some headphones you can use with your phone, ones that go in your ear and block out all the other sound. Using both ears with headphones will make it easier rather than just one like on a normal call.
