Has Anyone Replaced and Installed a Head Unit for Their ZRE152R 2012 Corolla Sedan?

Hello all,

My centre radio unit looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/SHHb3sa.jpg

I want to replace it with an Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto head unit.

I know there are many options from Sony, Kenwood & Pioneer but I am having a hard time figuring out compatibility. If I go to: https://aerpro.com/, I cannot even choose a Toyota 2012 corolla SEDAN :/

Also not many pictures to figure out how it would look in the car. I really like the stock look of my car so would like to keep it as close as possible to it.

So I am just seeking information from people here who have added an apple/android head unit and want to see their pictures.

Any help is much appreciated - pictures and/or which head unit to go with. I would also prefer head units with faster boot up times!

Thank you!

Looks like it's the same as the 2007-11 model. Most likely due to the MY variance.

Quick look on Alexipress showed plenty of options for that headset + rear camera.

Also when I typed in 2011 Corolla Sedan head unit it looked the same on YouTube.

For pics: refer to the Review section on the models^ or the YouTube videos.
From what I can see, it seems the only caveat is that the orientation is that of left hand side drive so the buttons are on the left.

    • Cool will check it out.

Was really hoping someone here in Aus had done it so I could ask them more questions, but I think I will visit a shop and ask them questions.

You'll find with the Corolla's that they're pretty much identical internally between the hatch and sedan when it comes to this sort of thing.

I've replaced later models with generic Android head units before and it was fairly straight forward. In my case there was a gap on the side but the head unit had something to fit in that slot with an extra USB port so it looks stock now.

    Don't hear that a lot.

    • hahahaha! Lol I don't know it looks so retro.

Yeah no that centre console is different to the hatch. I have a 2009 zre152r hatch and the gear stick section is in a raised position with a cubby thingo underneath, and the HVAC is differnt in my model too.

Toyota uses a headunit slot which is slightly wider than a traditional 2-din size. You can get these add on things that would just screw onto the sides of an aftermarket headunit. This one is handy and has a usb port and 3.5mm jack.

Depending on the brand of head unit youre planning to get, you'll need an adaptive harness. You can get direct toyota to xxx brand ones, but I got a Toyota-to-ISO harness, then an ISO-to-Sony harness.

Lastly, I also used a steering wheel harness adaptor to use the buttons on my steering wheel.

Head unit installation isnt really hard in the Corolla. I used a parts reference website http://toyotamarket.ru/gr/165310/ to try and figure out how the trim pieces attached to the console so that I could dismantle and remove them without breaking clips and such. At the bare minimum, you'll need a 10mm socket on an extension and a screw driver. Ideally, get yourself some plastic trim removal tools so you dont scuff the trim.

I'm not affiliated with Aerpro, but they pretty have all the bases covered for Aftermarket Car audio accessories. Just be careful though, they mixed one of the wires on the Toyota-to-ISO harness and I kept blowing a fuse when powering it up during installation. I didnt check the harnesses until the end because I simply assumed Aerpro would get that kinda stuff right.

You may also need to jack into the handbrake lever as well as some brands have utilized a handbrake lever sensor to lock the screen during driving. jacking into handbrake lever to bypass that safeguard ;)
