Is this a good GPS? Should I buy it? Please help

Fellas, pounced.com.au has the following deal on a GPS:

http://www.pounced.com.au/share/GPS_Navigation_Device

Basically, its a 5 inch touchscreen GPS for $119. I am thinking about buying it but don't know what brand or make it is. I have used pounced.com.au earlier to get a fuel card for half price so am ready to do business with them again. However, I am not sure if this is a genuine or good quality GPS.

Please help me if anyone knows anythingggggg.

  • edit. NVM, got to the page by going to the Pounced home page.

  • I wouldn't bother. Better to get a GPS that is a name brand (Garmin, TomTom, Navman).

  • +1

My dad got one of these over a year ago and it actually works pretty well - mostly because it has proper brand name GPS software (iGo) instead of some random chinese made GPS software. Takes an average amount of time to get GPS locks (<1 minute) but not really much else to fault.

Though I'm pretty sure these are around on eBay/DX for noticeably less than that. For example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-5-0-MTK-Dual-Core-GPS-SiFR-MP…

EDIT: Also I call BS on the "Special Pounced Bonus Accessories":

    • 1 x Car & Wall Charger
    • 1 x Windscreen Mount
    • 1 x Power Adapter
    • 1 x Car Charger
    • Bonus 4GB TF Card

The eBay listing includes the windscreen mount and car charger - who the hell doesn't include these? And what do they mean by a bonus Car & Wall Charger and a Power Adapter? So we end up with duplicates of each charger?

  • Thanks for the replies.

  • You attentioned your post to 'fellas', I guess that means I can't respond…

    • Sorry, my bad. I mean ozbargainers, please feel free to input your thoughts.

    • I agree with candygirl but steer clear of Navmans. They like to take you down illegal uturns and aren't the greatest in the city etc. I would personally get a Tom Tom but a Garmin is also good. You should really try out GPS models in store first just to get a feel of the user experience and read some reviews. I would never buy a GPS I haven't tried out before.

      • I'm sorry but my driving is incompatible with anything but illegal u-turns :D

  • Just wanted to add, I prefer name brands because then if you want to update the map at least there is a legitimate path to do so. Knock-off no name brands usually suffer from a lack of official map upgrade support.

  • check out the navig8r at Bigw, for $98 they are pretty good and have lifetime map upgrades
