Dyson V6 Keep Cutting out

I’ve got a Dyson v6 and have had so for about 5 years.

Haven’t had any issues really but lately have had one that’s really annoying.

Normal mode I get normal use (approx 20 minutes) but as soon I switch to MAX it cuts out after a few seconds.

Anyone else had this issue??

Have you tired taking out and washing the filter?

    • Yea I have

    • Had this issue before, took the whole thing apart and cleaned and it fixed the problem. Apparently the OP has tried that though…

Needs a new battery. Cheap one on eBay are available.

    • That’s what I thought initially but couldn’t work out why it still works normally ?

The battery is dying and is able to supply power at the normal level, but is unable to maintain power supply required at MAX level

  • Had the same problem. Battery needs resetting.

Call Dyson help line and they will walk you through the process of resetting the battery.
For me problem fixed and going fine months later.

Edit - oops, just read that it's working fine on normal but not on MAX. I've not used MAX since battery was reset. Still worth a call.

    • Actually just called them to do that. They kept saying the battery was dead even though it works normally. Ah well. 5 years for a battery. I shouldn’t complain…

  • Yup have similar issue with my v6

    • Tried cleaning everything out? I took it all apart and cleaned every bit, no issue after that

Max has higher current draw. Your degraded battery can’t deliver that any more. Get a new battery. I ordered from the Dyson online store and it arrived next day.

I had the same problem and found that it was clogged where the hose joined the bin.

You can't see the valve easily when emptying the bin so it's easy to miss.

Search "Dyson v6 intermittent" and you will find plenty of videos showing you how to fix it.

I had this issue, replaced the filter on the top of the device and it sorted it out. I read something about the cutting out is a thermal switch to prevent overheating.

Simple washing of the filter doesn’t really clean it. There are a few YouTube clips on pulling the filter apart to thoroughly clean it out. I now have two filters and swap them out when one gets dirty so I can clean and dry it.

If it was cutting out on both normal and max mode then I would suggest a battery issue

    • This was my problem too… i bought a new genuine battery and didnt fix… so pulled apart the filter per you tube clips and then worked like new - so much more suction! Washing the filter regularly per dyson instructions is not good enough

The purple cone filter at the top could be clogged. I cleaned mine out and it worked fine after that.

So much fine dirt, hair and some Styrofoam 😳

Have you cleaned the metal contacts?

  • The problem is there are so many possible causes of issues on these V6's. On YouTube there are heaps of good videos, tried them all with some success, but it just doesn't want to go on.

  • we had similar issue. first thought it was battery which i replaced. Ended up being the charger. Swapped out that from a genuine one for $30 off Dyson. Battery was cheap one on Amazon
