No different to how you would sign up to OzBargain or purchase a product online.

  • Best to get it when huge (90%) cashback is on, search NordVPN previous deals

    • Nordvpn is giving 68% off on 2 year plan, is it worth?

      • I'd only ever pay the 10% :)

Can't really say. I don't use it a lot but works well for me.

        • @jaybot
noob Q, but what are the benefits of using a VPN?

          • @ATTS: Some companies charge less for services in different countries, so with vpn you can sign up appearing from that country.

If you use torrents to download movies, it hides that traffic from your ISP so you won't get a nasty letter. Some VPN providers are ok with torrents (Peer to peer traffic they'll call it), some aren't.

When on public wifi it's a bit safer from (local attacks)/more private to browse the web with a VPN.

    • sign up for VPN.
    • make payment.
    • you'll get username and password
    • download their VPN client
    • login to the client with the username and password
    • select which server you want and click connect
    • Is server is pretty much like the country you mean… if I want to Watch Netflix with American listing… I’ll select USA server? Sorry if it’s silly question as I have zero knowledge abt vpn’s

each country can have one or many servers, or none at all.
If you simply to protect and hide your connection, choose the server with the highest speed, which usually means any server in Australia.

If you want to spoof your country location, choose server from other country.

Be aware that Netflix blocks and can detect many VPN servers.
If the purpose is for Netflix, you need to do some research.

        • You recommend anyone particular for Netflix?

    Here are some VPN reviews
    https://www.privacytools.io/providers/vpn/

I'm currently using Surfshark as they often have 90% off for 3 year deals.

Also make sure your using the correct VPN protocol. PPTP and L2TP are easy to crack. Use IKEv2, Open VPN or WireGuard.

Also remember just because you have a VPN it does not make you invincible to hackers. Data can still be transmitted to hackers if your computer has been compromised or you have vulnerable IoT devices. Most VPN like Surfshark will allow you to isolate your device from the network.

Note: If you are using iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 or lower, you'll need to upgrade as IKEv2, Open VPN and WireGuard traffic can be sniffed. This also goes for tvOS 13.4.8 and macOS without the 2020-004 Mojave, Security Update. AFAIK no "reported" VPN vulnerability for Windows have been published. CVE-2019-14899 also affects rooted Android devices so DON'T ENABLE ROOT.

    • Thanks for sharing 😊 So how can I protect myself from all the things you have mentioned? For example if I wanna start a YouTube membership from other country using VPN as someone posted today… how will I do that?

Oh, if you just want to use YouTube Premium using the deal for India then you can just sign up for a 7 day trial VPN account or cancel your plan before 30 days. If you want a long term solution then keep an eye out for these deals https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/570792.

        • Surf shark is going for $3.52au/m for two year plan… is it good? Better than nord VPN? Yeah I wanted to use for YouTube Prem mainly as I only heard abt that deal but not sure wat else the VPN can be used for…

Ps I’m iPhone user if it matters

          • @Prince321: Haven't tried Nord. But Surfshark is good enough for me. The only thing I find annoying occasionally some sites will make you complete a Captcha. Express VPN is ranked the best for watching US Netflix and US Prime Video if you want to read the reviews for them.

            • @No Username: Is surfshark good Enough to protect from the privacy concerns you mentioned earlier… I mean good to use?

              • @Prince321: Yes, Surfshark is ranked 3rd with 9.6 Stars.

                Here are some notable features:
                * Has a built in ads, trackers and malware blocker.
                * Surfshark does DNS and IPv6 Leak Protection.
                * All your data is 256-bit encrypted.
                * Automatic Kill Switch
                * No Logs
                * HQ is located in the British Virgin Islands, outside the jurisdiction of the 5/9/14 Eyes Alliance

As long as all your devices are using the latest update your data is fine.

    • Thanks for your advice. I was looking at why my speeds are not so good on surfshark, and this advice fixed it. I was using the wrong protocol. Was wondering if theres any additional settings for port forwarding required for torrenting.

A vpn for geolocation is only good until the service you are trying to use bans the IP Range.
