wow, this keeps coming. I left a message to JB in the first round, received a call back 3 weeks later and got offered the same deal and they signed me up.

  • +1

Do you get additional $100 if preorder iPhone 12? I think they had additional $100 voucher with pre order.

  • Hmm this is a good offer. Wonder if it's worth paying out my remaining $35 ETC from a similar deal last year, while they have the extra $100 gift card

    14/11/2019 Telstra 12-Month Post Paid 60GB $65 Per Month & $500 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card - Port-in- In-Store Only @ JB Hi-Fi - which turned out to be $55/mth after the $10 port in monthly credit.

And then using the $500 gift card from that one last year, and the $500 gift card from this one today, to get one of the Note 20's on sale there today. Hmm

(Of course that assumes I can port out and sign up for this new one all in one day)

The $65/month for 180GB deal posted a few days ago seems better value IMO https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573872

    • +7

      That deal: $65x12 = $780 (180GB/mth at $65/mth)
      This deal: $59x12 = $708 - $500 gift card = $208 (80GB/mth at $17.33/mth)

I think this is a much better deal?

  • guessing this doesn't work for melbourne?

    • +2

Yeah it does call them 13 52 44

  • Yo nice deal cuz🥵

  • +2

I just got it. Received the gift card on the spot.
$500 gc on port in and $400 gc on new service. M

    • wait so you got 2 gc?

      • No. I just asked about the new service.

    • I got $500 for new service

  • Can you use these vouchers to buy an iPhone 12? Are Telechoice customers eligible for this deal?

    • +2

based on previous comments, you can even stack with other 5% off gc

    • +2

Yes, I signed up last week and used those gift card to preorder an iPhone 12 online.

      • hey mate, may I ask when did the preorder start on JB for iPhone 12?

        • Not sure, I think it was same as Apple, on 16th? I put mine on 18th

  • When I click on the link 'Go to Deal' it says $300 gift card. Am I missing something here?

    • Yes instore only.

      • And you have to ask for the ozbargain deal

  • is 500 for new customers or for port in ?

    • port in

  • Sorry, how can i sign up????

  • Great deal! Unfortunately I still got 3 months contract to go. Hope they still have these types of deal by then. After claiming on work expenses it works out to be $0/m for 12 months for me!

    • +1

Wouldn't you make money if your work aren't aware of the $500 gift card?

      • Work doesn’t pay me cos I didnt want to go through the paperwork. I treat it as tax deduction in my tax return.

        • Ok so you claim the full $59 per month and the ATO don't need to know about the gift card?

          • @Arthur Dunger: I havent done the gift card before but is there a section where the tax return let you enter gift cards? 🤣

    • work expense? what do you do??

      • I am on call so having a mobile phone plan is tax deductible or paid by the company. I chose the former.

  • +1

Just did this in store, didn’t even know about the $500 GC (thought it was just $400) and the staff told me the offer was available today only.

Was with Optus originally, whole thing probably took about 20 minutes. Port over to Telstra took <5 minutes. Got the gift card immediately after.

  • +2

Anyone know if the got any nbn deals running?

    • -1

Do you realise shops sell other sim cards for about $10 that you can then use to port? It’s not hard to do bit of own thinking. Deals don’t have to cover every single detail for every possible outcome out there

      • Well yeah, but unformately I didnt have the time to dick around with buying sim, activing it and waiting for that and then processing this deal. Unfortunately I have other commitments that cant accomodate such a dick around for a 1 day only deal.

Unfortuntely, the OP stated it was for new customers, which is incorrect. I stated the correct situation, I guess the many people who downvoted dont like the truth.

        • I have done this before and it’s doesn’t take one day. It didn’t even take more than two hours to complete the whole process

          • @Pricebeat: Didnt say it took one day to activate. But you point is correct, but I didnt have 2 hours today

    • +2

At least you burned calories theRealFatTony

    • I was at belco this afternoon too. I went to Aldi and bought a $5 sim, activated it, went back to jb, got the deal. No problems.

  • Man, continually punished for just wanting to stay with telstra. All the best deals are new customer only.

    • +1

Just port out and port back in when u see another deal. Sounds like they haven't awarded you for being loyal.

  • what's the cheapest sim card to buy to port in?I bought voda previously but had to topup the balance to activate and receive port in sms

    • Optus has a $1 min. prepay recharge called Optus Flex :)

  • Okay to come from Belong?

    • +1

Excludes Telstra Pre-Paid, Boost and Belong customers. Offer not in conjunction with any other offer.

      • Dang. Cheers.

  • +1

Anything change? It's showing $300 gift card on the $69 plan via the link?

  • Can I port 2 numbers in and get 2x $500 gift cards?

    • Yes. I have done this previously.

    • Yes, yes you can :)

  • Can this deal be taken up online? I'm in Melbourne so can't go into any stores.

    • I’m in melb and just did it via phone, took 20 mins

  • Can you port in from Telstra prepaid?

    • You need to be on a different telco that isn't Telstra, Boost or Belong.

  • -8

    Cant see it on website

  • Does anyone know what is the $59/month sim-only plan actually is? any special restrictions or 5g coverage included etc?

  • +1

I called JB and confirm they do have it, and went into a JB store. The guy got all my details, and gave me the Sim. He says I can switch the Sim when my Optus lose signal. And will let me know when the GC is ready to be collected, most likely end of the day today…

I went to the store 12:35, started the process 12:40, the process was about 10 mins or so. It's now 1:15, my Optus is still working and I have to go back to work first :(, not sure when my GC can be ready.

    • +1

Oh I'm so happy, literally 2 mins after I did above post, I received a email from Telstra and signal lost. I went back to the store and got GC! :D

  • I ported out my Telstra postpaid plan 5 weeks ago and ported out the Telstra prepaid sim last week. Can I get the deal?

  • i've tried calling the hotline number, forever on hold, left multiple voice mails too.. oh well

tried to call the store direct and spoke to the mobile phone store person and they quoted the following

    VIC - Watergardens
    - deal is only available in store for the $500 GC as they need ID checks, unless you can visit a regional store (LOL!)

I'm hoping to get a call back from the voicemails I left to get this deal

  • Maybe a dumb question - If I'm currently on Optus, do I have to inform them if I change provider to avoid some hidden fees? Or can I just start this deal and they will take care of the rest without my input?

    • +1

you dont have to advise optus, but you may be charged early termination fee if you are still on a contract with optus

      • Done. They've informed me my ETC is $67 so I'm just going to do that and port over. Spent 30 mins on the phone (including hold) to complete the process.

  • This is the first time I am considering one of these JB Hi-Fi gift card / Telstra plans. Does this essentially make this plan cost $208 over the course of 12 months?

Usually I purchase the 365 day pre-paid Kogan Mobile Medium plan for roughly $200 and I get 13 GB per month.

This Telstra deal is better than Kogan in pretty much every way right?

    • yes

    • Correct, assuming you have something to spend with the $500 GC @ JB. If you are selling the GC, going rate is about 10% off face value at the moment, so $450. That would make your total over 12 months $258, which is still a good deal for most.

  • This is a pretty damn good offer, works out to about $17/month once you factor in the value of the giftcard.

  • +1

For those new to this deal, I highly recommend reading my detailed post here on how to get your existing number on this plan: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/574151?page=1#comment-9468…

    • except that people are reporting new service is only getting $400. The $500 is for port in.

      • I'm reporting different, I got $500 for a new service.

      • I tried to get this as a new service on an existing account and was told only port in or new accounts only.

    • Reading your post I had a question whether this would work if I was on a telstra pre-paid plan not postpaid. i.e can I transfer a pre-paid number to a post paid plan?

  • Thanks OP for this amazing deal, ported my number and got the GG, all up in 20 min . Cheers

  • +2

I ported to this plan today but received an SMS from Telstra indicating that I have 60GB data. It's supposed to be 80GB, correct?

    • Anyone else setup already and able to see their data allowance? If so, does it show 60GB or 80GB?

    • I think the person who processed your Telstra application missed to tik the bonus , targeted 20GB offer on your app . You ll have to contact JB or Telstra to get this fixed.

      • Thanks. Telstra are refusing to help and JB Hifi is also refusing to help unless I go into the store.

        • I have the same issue :( let me know how you go

          • @babylu66: JB Hifi fixed the issue for me.

            • @nezza: Great! Mines fine too :)

            • @nezza: Did you have to get it fixed in-store? I'm of 60gb too.

              • +1

@paulj13: yeah store is best way to fix it. you can call them if you dont want to head back in. its a quick fix.

                • @ccrap: Did you have any proof of the offer with you? If so where did you get it?

                  • +1

@paulj13: I'm pretty sure the original paperwork given to me at sign up time has the details on it re 20GB bonus data and $10 off per month, however I didn't require it to get the data added. I logged on to the my Telstra site the next day and saw it only showing 60GB. I wasn't stressed as the lady who signed me up the day before had already flagged with me that due to a system issue, sometimes the bonus data does not show up correctly and may need to be re-added.

So gave her a quick call the next day. She popped me on hold for 2 minutes and then confirmed it had been now been correctly added. I got busy but checked around an hour later and sure enough it showed up as 80GB on the My Telstra site. Didn't need to go in to the store just for that. If you are getting resistance then try and speak with whoever did your sign up in store or the manager of that section.

                    • +1

@ccrap: Thanks ccrap all sorted over the phone!!!

                      • @paulj13: glad to hear mate :) Enjoy the deal and have a great weekend!

                    • @ccrap: I didn't get any paperwork which i signed up today.

                      • @Rakddon: Hmm interesting, did you sign up in-store? Assuming yes, the procedure is once they have captured/confirmed all your details they print out a summary contract which you physically sign as the signed page needs to be scanned back into the Telstra system. There's also an ACMA mandated requirement for you either to be provided the printed CIS at sign up time or via post (or via email which some telcos do but is not officially listed by ACMA as an official means for being provided the CIS).

If you have the time, get the docs next time you are in JB. If you don't have the time or don't care, given the number of us that signed up for this, if there are any probs in the future I'm sure a fellow ozbargainer would be happy to share a copy of their CIS and contract summary with sensitive bits redacted.

                        • @ccrap: Signed up in store, no paperwork was given.

Got emails from Telstra welcoming me and see everything in my account.

I did sign something on the computer though, maybe they did it there.

  • +1

I got the same deal @ The Good Guys, don't need tech products and used $500 on a new fridge!

  • Can't port over if your name has been on a sim through the telstra/boost network within the last 30 days (Even with a new sim through optus).

    • Are you sure, usually you can port a number across and get these deals if the # has not been with Telstra in the last 30 days (most will let you but they shouldn't).
You can also signup for multiple instances to get multiple cards.
