I've been listening to the audio….this author knows what she is talking about.

She doesn't just talk about the structure (STAR) and how to conduct yourself in an interview, she goes a step further and talks about WHAT the interviewers are actually looking for.

How the questions are worded do not necessarily indicate what they are actually looking for.

What you THINK is a good response may not make sense, when you come to terms with WHAT the interviewers are really getting at. This sounds straightforward, but many resources do not explain this.

Cannot rate this any less than 4 stars. Personally I would give it 5. It was refreshing to see many of the ideas that I thought were good, get picked apart.

Basically it's not even about the questions or the interview or this or that, it boils down to one thing "What are you likely to do for us". You could say things that make sense and even answer the question, but if it somehow conflicts with what they expect for THEM, then it is a bad response.

Also the interview then isn't really an interview…..it is essentially just a data mining session. They want to gather as much data as possible to project your future actions. So even if you have great results and great answers, but you reveal somethings that put your ethics in doubt, or put how you work with others in doubt, then you have screwed yourself.

If there is a great story that shows how you have worked well and delivered great outcomes, but it reveals something that could be perceived as undesirable, do not tell that story.

Your job is to give them good data points. We might think of it as answering questions…it really isn't. Sometimes it may even be better to NOT answer the question, to state that you have not had experience in that area….but………….

STAR does not exist to teach you how to answer questions effectively. It is there to make sure that you include all the relevant data points.
