*Solved* Sold Some Shares (Sell Order Filled) but Then They Became "Not Sold" The Next Day

SOLVED
After contacting CMC Market the 2nd time, finally got their team to investigate the issue. About half an hour after I hang up with them, I got the confirmation email. Gotta keep the $1000 profit. Happy man 😁

Not sure if anyone has this experience before?
I'm fairly new to trade so forgive me if I'm not using the correct terms
Something had happened to me today, I don't know if it's a stock market problem or broker's problem,
I bought some UK shares (Say Stock A) last Friday, and managed to Sell them on Monday for a 40% gain
The Sell order was placed and Filled on Monday, however I never received a confirmation by the end of Monday (I usually get one within 15 mins of a trade)
This morning(Tuesday) when I woke up, there's still no confirmation. And then I can see that I'm holding the full amount of stock A and I'm able to place an order to sell again….
I called up the broker and they couldn't figured out why, my Order has been placed and Filled yesterday.
Yet, the shares are still available to me to trade just like they were never sold

The broker said they'd call me back but never did, I'm in Perth so their office closes like 2:30pm my time

Does anyone have the same experience or know what might have happened??

  • Very odd - they should be able to get you a trade confirm. You shouldn’t be able to sell your holdings again if there’s nothing wrong with the trade that got filled. UK stocks settle T+2 so you technically hold the stock until 2 days after trade date but they should drop off your tradable positions. Tried googling your broker / anyone else with bad experience with them?

    • That's what I thought, I wasn't able to trade on Monday, but the next day I was able to trade again. Which indicates that the shares aren't sold??
Will have to call them up again tomorrow
I've only started trading for a few weeks and this happened, was thinking I'm lucky, able to make $1000+ in a few days….

I should read this before NOT applying

      • Looks like you lost money and Not made $1K!

        • expensive lesson :(

      • To be fair, CMC is pretty legit - and productreview is obviously oging to be quite skewed towards critical reviews unless solicited.

  • Sounds like a tough day at the insider trades investor centre.

  • 2 threads? Really….

Sorry but I had 2 different questions thought it's easier to separate them.
If it's not allowed I could delete one…..

  • never received a confirmation

No confirmation means that maker couldn't find a buyer. You still hold the stocks.

    • Then how come the order was filled? Doesn't that mean someone bought them or am I confusing myself?
Once the order was filled, I wasn't able to trade the stock.

Here's the email I received from CMC:
Your order to sell xxx XXX:GB at 3.000 GBX was filled on 19/10/2020 at 07:30:23 PM.
You will receive a trade confirmation containing full details and settlement instructions.

Ahhh - there was a streetwise glitch in the Euronext exchange that affected a number of securities on trade date Friday, a bunch of filled orders were cancelled not sure if yours might be wrapped up in this. If you don’t have a trade confirm (as opposed to a system message) safe to say you have not sold.

I use St George directshares which is a rebranded CMC it really chugs when it’s a busy day but I don’t really day trade mostly just buy hold.

        • Seems like a bad day for me, just lost a chance to make a $1000 bucks
          Beginner's "bad" luck lol

I would say that answers your question!

I was going to propose that the securities left your account when the sell was was lodged - and returned when not executed (assuming your order was good for the day)

But that email seems to wrap it up - I’d pursue them for the amount - but I’m sure they have an ‘out’ clause absolving them of any responsibility

Finally got the confirmation, but still don't know why the delay. CMC didn't tell me what went wrong
