Cheapest Way to Charge a Surface Book?

Does anyone know any frankenstein way to charge the surface book?

My old charger is dying, sometimes the light doesn't turn on. I've been thinking of buying a replacement but the amazon generics apparently start smoking and in the middle of the night your house could be burnt down if you have no RCD. e.g. feedback on https://www.amazon.com.au/Surface-Charger-Laptop-Suitable-Co…

Can I just get a 18W charger and then buy an adapter to change it to a surface cable? Or does it need to be stronger?

I need some cable such as this one:

Alternatively there are some power banks that work, so maybe I just keep it charged through the power bank?

    • I did a bit more research and it looks like I need at least 45W… I guess I could buy the below and then buy the cables separately because I seem to put them through some damage…

I was going to buy another OEM one but that's expensive and I think the cable might start to fray again. The problem with the original is that you cannot just replace the cable for $20.

        ELECTRICITY

  • All houses in Australia should have circuit breakers (or at least some kind of fuse). The problem with these after market chargers is more related to heat than it is to circuit breakers. If your power brick is tripping the breaker, it has other issues, and a circuit breaker is not going to stop it from heating up, melting and possibly catching fire.

My nephews Surface charger died a few months ago and all I did was get on eBay and found genuine surplus stock ones for sale. Only cost me about $20~$30 for a genuine charger that had never been used.
