Only 6% less than reference price in my postcode for usage rates. Solar FIT is 15c/kWh capped at the first 5kWh a day. I doubt this is a bargain for many people unless your usage is particularly low.

    • Indeed, everyone should check the comparison first, but for me a couple of years ago when this promo was on it was a great rate for me, I switched, and was very happy. But I wasn't at home much, to be fair, so usage may have been lower.

  • used to be okay when I started and QF points were worth more but unfortunately not too worth it to switch back now

  • Think this is a long running offer.

  • red used to be good, but for now the rate is very bad

  • I saw this deal a few days ago and compared to my current providers rates.
Red came out more expensive than Origin.

  • Howdy everyone. I called Origin the other day and asked for a promotion that was posted here back in June
They said the deal is still available:

    15Kw FIT no cap
    23% of usage and supply
Supply works out to be $0.86
    Tariff one is $0.184
    Tariff two is cheaper again

    I will repost the deal

    Update - I'm in QLD
My colleague is on the Solar Boost deal at 9c FIT and was able to change to this plan
    Just call 1800 557 700

    • @tnarg Do you know how much tariff two is? is that uncapped for FIT too?

      • +1

        Yes uncapped FIT
I think it was 14-16 cents something like that
There is also a 4c solar charge per day as well

Looks like most providers are now charging you a pd price for Solar PV system installed and feeding back

  • Please post especially if it applies to NSW.

    • Available for new residential electricity and/or gas customers in eligible areas of ACT, NSW, VIC, SA and QLD only

      • I'm with Origin in NSW on their Solar Optimiser but it will expire in Nov. Can you provide the link anyway.

        • pm'd

        • Just call them on this number and ask for the deal: 1800 557 700
The lady was quite nice on the phone and said yes the deal is still valid for the month.
I did move from Alinta , but my friend who is on Origin was able to move onto this plan

          • @tnarg: Does the deal have a name? Like Solar Optimiser, Solar Boost, etc.

            • @BellaWii: They don't advertise the deal - just say my friend called the other day and got the 15c FIT 23% off deal off the Origin Solar Boost

        • Any trick to get this deal in NSW, didn't succeed at first attempt

    Qantas points…lol.

    • With Qantas points you have to pay more. Without it you pay less.

So I’m not sure now if the Qantas points worth the premium rate.

Those so called discount from other electricity retailers also confusing. They don’t want to make it easy for us to compare rates.

  • Such bad value! You pay through the nose for these points. Total cost for us (elec & gas, no solar) in Sydney, based on our usage, for 1st year:
    * Red Energy Qantas Red saver: $1,606.36 [that's usage + supply charges, subtracting $50 referral bonus, and also subtracting the value of the points - valuing them at 1 cent each - i.e. subtracting $150, all inc GST]
    * GloBird Energy Combo: $1,447.66 with direct debit, or $1,463.14 without direct debit [exact same usage + supply charges, assuming no referral bonus (although you can get $50 off by getting a referral code from OzB), all inc GST]

In other words, you're paying ~$300/year more ongoing than the best rate (that I could find for our postcode & usage), and for that you're being compensated with a one-off $150 bonus of QFF points. After 6 months on this, you're worse off, on an ongoing basis. That's the exact opposite of a deal. [disclosure: not affiliated with either company & do not work in this industry, only trying to maximize value & points]
