Advice on Marketing My Bookkeeping Business

Hi All,

Not sure if this is the right space, but I have recently started my own bookkeeping business where I do returns for individuals and small businesses, and I am seeking other ozbargainers on advice how to go about market myself. I have a website, LinkedIn page and I have been active in Facebook groups, but would like other suggestions if any.

Appreciate your help and I will take any feedback on board.

Custom invoices with a branded letterhead always impress. you can usually plug in a template into Xero and such if you know how to create it in Word in the first place.

Target small business in your local area first. This could be via flyer/business card drop and/or Google Ads since you have a website. Make sure your website is SEO optimised. Once you get a couple of clients under your belt, word of mouth referrals will hopefully kick in and you can reassess from there. Timing is key too, you can invest more during times when bookingkeeping becomes top of mind for business owners (e.g. EOFY; when BAS are due etc.).

Google Business Page, Website and SEO. But I found word of mouth and referral programs better for small businesses. Most of the time big businesses would out rank you in searches unless you pay money. I ended up cancelling Google Ads as I had more genuine customers via word of mouth. I'd spend more time building up connections in LinkedIn.

Sign written vehicle. Very cost effective way of marketing your business.
