It's a fairly ugly axe innit?

  • Still prefer solid timber guitars. Maybe worth trying carbon fiber.

  • I was in the market for a travel guitar and actually ordered one of these last week. ETA is 29th Oct so stock might be coming from Sydney or even Hong Kong.

I always prefer to play a guitar before I buy but given the circumstances that was not an option. Lava guitars said they accept returns if the guitar is not damaged, so I pulled the pin.

Great concept for a travel guitar, with precision fretting and low action. I've seen a few reviews saying the effects are not super loud, but I would expect this from an internally amplified system. Speaking of reviews, there are not a lot of non-sponsored YouTube or non press release web reviews. However most Amazon Canadian reviews were positive. It's not a cheap guitar but I think Chinese made guitars have made huge improvements recently, similar to Japanese made guitars in the 70s and Koreans in the 90.

    We will see…

      Canadian reviews were positive

Could just be the Canadian temperament? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have no evidence of this, but this is the second time I've seen these guitars on ozbargain and I've seen them nowhere else which makes me think this might be advertising.

Where is the deal here? These are expensive for unknown brand chinese made guitars.

I won't neg since I'm just speculating but tread warily here fellow bargainers….

For context I've been playing guitar over a decade and pretty engaged with gear forums online, have multiple high end guitars etc.

    • I see what you're saying and it is a risk for an unknown company.

Cheapest on Ebay is $1600 ranging up to $3500 shipped from Japan. They currently sitting at $799 USD. I've been playing for over 30 years and owned Martins, Fenders and Gibsons etc. I play a lot of fingerstyle blues, funk and jazz, so the setup seems good for a player like me. I think the risk is minimized my Amazons return policy. But again we will see…

      • Yep, fair call. Definitely buyer beware, but sounds like you know what you're getting into.

Just flagging my concerns here as I know this may appeal to beginners etc who might not realise they're taking a risk.

  • Lava Me… in oil

  • Spanish, Lava me is "Wash me" :o

What are you saying Lava? You dirty little thing you..

  • I'll be playing like Yngwie J Malmsteen in no time with one of these. ;)

  • There is also the Boaz modular guitar on kickstarter. Facebook page here

I've tried this guitar and can personally say that it's very impressive. Weird (and brilliant) to have a guitar with built in effects. Very convenient little machine. I definitely recommend
