Could this be a sign of some lower Ultrabook pricing to come?

The HP Folio 13 is a 3.3-pound ultrabook, meeting all of Intel's initial specs for the new category. It's light (3.3 pounds), it's thin (0.7 inch), and HP claims it will provide up to nine hours of battery life.

The consumer model of the HP Folio 13 will be available Dec. 7, with a starting price of $US900 for the Intel Core i3 configuration.

Recently it was reported that Ultrabook makers, Acer and Asus, reduced their orders for the ultrabooks by 40 percent. Sales of the Ultrabook line in the first month were said to have been poor for both companies.

So with added competition and poor sales - a new bargain offering soon?

  • 3.3 pounds does not meet Intel's Ultrabook specs.

  • JB Hi-Fi has already discounted Zenbook UX31 to make it quite a good deal comparing to equivalent MBA 13".

  • when ultrabooks were first announced they were supposed to be under US$1000, ultra thin and have long battery life to compete directly with Mac Air, but the first ultrabooks were mostly over US$1000 so they failed right from the start! thin laptops are expensive compared to run of the mill stuff no matter what the battery life or cpu, thin/lightweight=exotic cooling solutions & expensive materials like magnesium/carbon fiber etc years ago i had a work laptop a Toshiba Portege, very thin but expensive(4K!) and slow, no way i would have bought that with my own money
