Where Are All The iPhone 11 Pro's?

Earlier in the week (prior to the iphone 12 launch) everywhere seemed pretty stocked in the way of 11 Pro's and Pro max.

I've noticed since then though the stock has disappeared for the most part… Optus only has the 64gb model of the pro in Green and thats it. Telstra completely out of stock. Officeworks only has stock of the 512gb, and also the green 64gb.

JB has somehow maintained the biggest stock offering with 3 colours each of the 64gb and 256gb Pros (no Max)

So my question is, where has all the stock gone, and will it be coming back?

Many thank,

  • 11 Pro has been discontinued
only the 11 is staying in the Range

    12
    12 mini
    12 Pro
    12 Pro Max
    SE
    11
    XR

    Thats the current range.

    • Yeah I understand that they aren't making them anymore, but the part that confuses me is that stores with previously plenty of stock have disappeared

Used to work in the industry so this may not still be the case
but Apple used to require us to return stock when they discontinued a product. They would then either resell them to us at a reduced wholesale price or make them unavailable.
Also Apple would thin stock for weeks prior to the launch of a new range, thus limiting stock left over when new ones launch

That's very interesting. Thanks for the insight, It sounds like that likely could still be the case. Still got my fingers crossed for the looming discounts

          • @feebo: Apple don't discount much.

          • @feebo: Gumtree, saw a 64gb as new nick and 6 months old yesterday for $1050. Will be heaps next weekend.

Most telco's work on a pretty skinny supply chain, despite what most people think, they won't be carrying 100's or 1000's of every colour/capacity/model at any given time; they might carry 1 or 2 week's worth, knowing that apple will replenish their orders in days when they run low. The exception is obviously at launch, since they'll get an initial large allocation; but once that's through they order on an as needed basis.

This protects them as well; since phones are expensive and companies just cant afford to have millions of dollars capital tied up in inventory, especially when margin on apple products are notoriously skinny.

As for where all the 11 pro's have gone; as another user said apple will take back their discontinued models from their authorised resellers (telstra, optus, jb hifi, big w, officeworks etc), obviously joe's mobile repair shop on the street corner who buys and sells phones won't get that privilege, so they'll still have them for sale (usually at RRP)

What apple does with all these returned phones? well for starters there's not that many; apple themselves work on a very skinny pipeline so production of the 11 pro's would have dwindled long ago. They'll likely keep these units for warranty replacements.

Despite being pro environment, apple would be happier to burn them all in a bonfire than sell them to the public for a steep discount since that would cannibalise the sales of their newer lines.

    • That all makes a lot of sense. Thank you

    • apple would be happier to burn them all in a bonfire

      Would kill for this job.

Friend: So what do you do?
Me: Burn iPhones for a living, sometimes have to work over time in prelaunch

WWF to prevent iPhones from extinction?

  • Don’t despair, you might have saved yourself from a hand injury. I had one but returned it as it was so wide and heavy it was giving me pain. I was disappointed as I wanted the fancy cameras, but not badly enough justify developing chronic pain.

  • A cycle of life. They probably make retailers temporarily take down the listing of 11 pro and pro max, or forbid any discount on 11pro just for boosting the sales of the new release 12, 12 pro. Then around Xmas period, you will see 11 pro being discounted heavily. Last year, XS, XS max started its exit strategy - huge discount at JB around Black Friday.
