[Cashrewards] Cashback Question & Footlocker Fail. Need Information for Future Attempts.

Disclaimer: I have used Cashrewards many times successfully.
Cashrewards related question is at the bottom.
TLDR: Footlocker = Boohoo, Cashrewards = advice needed.

Hi so here goes.

Discovered 20% Cashrewards @ Footlocker (ends today).
Footlocker had a few $79 Ultraboost options, but clicking through showed them "out of stock" (all sizes blanked out or wrong sizes).

Found one that had just one size in stock that happened to be my size (cheers).
Added to cart.

Note: At this point I realised there was a banner at the bottom like many other websites asking me to "Accept" cookies from Footlocker.
So thinking the cashback would only track if I accepted, I clicked "Accept" cookies from Footlocker.

Ok so ready to pay, go to next page (checkout) fill out details and then click "Buy Now".

I am sent to a page which just says "Items in your cart were removed due to being out of stock".

I go back and check the stock is gone.

So what happened with Footlocker here?

Either:

  1. Clicking "Accept" cookies from Footlocker website messed up the cookies and made the product available to someone else (I always thought if you “add to cart” your product is reserved otherwise there would be a lot of upset customers). Or…

  2. Footlocker lacks "reservations" and someone else who happened to be the exact same shoe size managed to checkout faster (I was pretty quick though).

And question for Cashrewards:

To anyone at Cashrewards or anyone else who knows, when a shop website you go to for Cashback (after clicking through Cashrewards) asks you to "Accept" cookies (in this case Footlocker) do you "Accept" or just ignore it? Which method guarantees that your Cashback will track?

  • The experience you had is not related to CR.

Accepting cookies on the site is fine but I always click through from CR a second time to make sure.

I think it is party related, due to there being a lack of instruction / information about whether to “Accept” cookies from the shop website.
But I will edit the title & post.

      Ok thanks this information helps.

  • Accepting cookies didn't make the stock dissapear…
Someone else bought it or a stock adjustment changed the quantity between when you added to your cart and when you tried to purchase it.

Adding to your cart generally doesn't reserve the item, just look at any click frenzy complaints ;)

    • But the purpose of the “Cart” is to browse items and add, browse and add.
If you took a few mins to add a few different products and then at checkout are told that 1 or all of them are out of stock, that would be an issue for customers.

So I thought most “online shops” i.e. like Footlocker etc with physical stores would have reservations for things added to your cart.

Maybe I am wrong, but this makes sense to me…
Click frenzy is chaos and I assume first in first served. But this is about online purchases from regular stores.

      • +1

        Nope, happens all the time
Things sell out and are removed from your cart before you are able to buy/checkout

The cart does not reserve your stock (for most E commerce sites)

          Ok thanks for sharing.
I guess people only notice when the product(s) in question have low stock numbers.

  • This sounds like first in best dressed.

Note for future orders. Click and pay faster than the other guys.

    • Ok thanks. I understand the “Footlocker” part of the post sounds like a “Boohoo” scenario.

But would still like to know the proper procedure for shop websites that ask you to “Accept” cookies, and how to go about it properly.

A comment above mentioned clicking “Accept” closing window, then clicking through Cashrewards again. So that is what I assume must be done at this moment.

      • A notice to accept cookies is just a formality to comply with the GDPR or any other local privacy legislation.

        • So the correct procedure I assume you click through, Accept cookies, click through again, add to cart -> checkout.

A notice to accept cookies is just a formality to comply with the GDPR or any other local privacy legislation.

That’s what I thought (it forces cookies first), and the “Accept” part is just for show and legal reasons only.
But some websites have a “optional” feature which you can choose certain cookie options, so in which case you have a choice? (Before accepting all).

These "Cookies Accept" banners started everywhere recently, I see it on more and more sites now, but first time I encountered it while using Cashrewards.

I just thought it odd that the other person happened to be the exact same shoe size.
I was pretty quick, that’s how come I am suspicious about the “Accept” cookies part.
