I enjoyed the Strong Bad/Teen Girl Squad reference in the "sooo good" cheat code. That's about all I enjoyed.
The resource train/control point system was weird.
The shipment system was weird.
The card system was extremely weird.
That's about all I enjoyed.
That's a bit dramatic, if not meme-worthy.
It's definitely not that terrible, you just seem to have some blinding nostalgia for AoE II. It had it's fair share of issues too; the late game in every high-level match devolved into every player spamming the same three units: Hussars, Halberdiers and Skirmishers because they cost no gold, which had run out by that point.
The resource train/control point system was weird.
There's maps without trading posts. They're not a big deal, they don't give you that many free resources per trip and you can absolutely dominate a game without controlling trading posts.
The shipment system was weird.

Yeah that's the same thing; some Home City cards send shipments of units, others give you resources or upgrades. Because you're playing as a colonial empire in AoE III, your home/capital city sends supplies/reinforcements to your far-flung colony. They function exactly like the civilisation-specific bonuses in AoE II because the different civs were otherwise 90% identical, save for a unique unit. In AoE III there are much more tangible differences between the different empires.
It's not that baffling to understand nor is it historically inaccurate. No moreso than priests walking up to a goddamned War Elephant, chanting "Wololo" and suddenly convincing him to attack the side he was fighting for 3 seconds ago.
Pretty much every AoE III player online has maxed out their Home Cities, so everyone has a full deck and equally-good opportunities and strategies available.
We forgive OP for being wrong as they bring deals
It's the difference between SC: Broodwar and SC II. They're different games that are equally good in their own respective ways but the fan base tends to be staunchly for one or the other.
I played AoE III extensively back in the day and never found it that difficult or different to enjoy compared to AoE II.
AoE II, then AoM then AoE III then AoE that's the order. Don't get me wrong I'm buying this.
thanks OP!

AoE 2 is much better + I like having over 200 hours game-play in just campaigns (which are actually historical).
Next favorite is AoM
And here is a deal (all time lowest price, especially if you have HB Choice) for the Definitive Edition for Age of Empires II:
"much better than AOE2?"
I'll be here with some popcorn
