There's all this talk of a new console coming out next year but is it really worth waiting for?
EDIT: Thanks all for your replies and insight, much appreciated.

If you've got a job then why not. Value won't go down too much until Nintendo halves the price of it RRP. A lot of the games are ports but there's no other portable console quite like it atm.
not unless you can get the first batch production - hackable
People will work something out, they always do, but I’m not modifying mine until switch online is shut off
Get another console to stay legit with and hack the one you have. I got a Switch lite for online play and use my original for homebrew etc
Assuming you've got the time to hack, yeah I agree. If you work 80 hours a week you will probably want to not bother hacking. It's worth owning two switches for if you're a Nintendo fan, one to reliably play online with and one to hack and have fun with.
80 hours a week? How do you live
I don't. But I mean I'm sure there's some people who wouldn't want to spend any time at all learning hacking and how to manage their library and stuff. For some people just going vanilla is easier.
Good console
Depends on your use case, just like anything you buy. If you ain't going to play on it, you can wait indefinitely.
There are some exclusive games (as this is Nintendo afterall), the Mario series… if you usually play games that are cross platform, then you have more options. Assuming you play console/computer games… ;)
Yes definitely interested in the Mario series, the last I played them were on my Nintendo 64, so high hopes for those games
AFAIK, the model of Switch currently being sold is a newer revision (I believe newer CPU) - its said to have increase (battery) play time when you use it as a handheld.
I pulled the trigger on it. It has the type of games that the wife and I are interested in (mario party, animal crossing ..etc..) and it's nice with the whole portability thing since wifes using the PS4 to watch her kdramas.
im personally waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to grab a Switch.. there will always be new models
$239 on the Lite was a pretty good deal yesterday. :)
I was thinking the same thing, maybe a Cyber Monday deal similar to yesterday's bundle with Minecraft perhaps
Yes. While the PS5 and new Xbox are on our doorstep, the successor to the Switch is still some way off.
Yes there will always be new versions/upgrades of Nintendo hardware.
As the internet says: "Nintendo CEO and president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors today that the company has “no plans” to launch a new model of the Switch in 2020". He didn't say anytyhing about 2021 though!
If you need to play Switch game now, buy it and enjoy.
I'm looking into an used console but they aren't any cheaper than a new one. This will be my first game console so have no idea how the price goes or fluactuate. Am I going to see a huge price drop like $300 mark at all (not possible)? I think the console did drop down to that price (searching through ozbargain) until covid hit.
Hi koala9
You could want till Black Friday to try your luck. Or get the switch lite to instead.
I don't know whether you bought it or not. But my answer is it would be dependent on the game you play.
If you would like to play Nintendo's own games (eg Zelda Botw, Mario Odyssey, Smash Bros, etc), it would be worth buying. And you could save some bucks on the Black Friday deals. I got a ns+Kart 8 for 349$.
That’s pretty good deal. Hope for such price then now PS 5 is out. Where did you get that deal? Thanks.
Subjective question only you can answer. Do you want one now or willing to wait unspecified time?
