Bluray disks, DVD's, Maps, Art, and more. Seems like a big discount, was even more expensive before based on price history they were over $2000 too. Deal ends in 10 hours and 10% claimed already.

EDIT: Looks like both trilogies will be released in 4K early December this year, possibly why this set is on discount. And there's other news that the remastered 4K bluray of both trilogies will release around Christmas time next year, for the 20th anniversary.

If it was 4K i'd jump all over this!

    • Same was going to ask if anyone knows if this is or will be in 4k?

      • -2

The original trilogy have never been released in 4k, so I wouldn't think so.

      • +10

WB just announced an ultimate 4k collectors edition for 2021 and a regular 4k editions in December 2020.

      • This collection has been out for about 4 years, the 4k movies only went up for pre-release last week I believe. I missed out on TLOTR steelbooks, but I was able to yoink the Hobbit ones at least from Zavvi. Still keen on the 4ks being released finally!~ :D

  • +3

Nice, got this just so I can swap out the discs with the 4K ones when they’re released. Haha, the life of a LOTR tragic.

  • +3

    What region are these?

    • +1

Judging by all the positive reviews from US and Canada, the blu rays are probably region A, so won’t play on most Australian players

      • I think the Australian PS3s were region free, but not sure now.

        • +1

No, they’re only region free for games.

    • All other blu-ray releases of these discs have been region free in the US, so I’d be surprised if these weren’t too. The DVDs will need a region free player in AU though.

Does the LOTR movies still hold up today? Loved it when it was released but have never rewatched it ever since.

    • Sure does

    • +8

Yes, to some, including myself, they are the greatest trilogy of all time. I've re-watched them almost yearly, sometimes every couple of years. But I can't say my view is unbiased lol

    • Yep, so good still!!

    • +1

It'll vary person to person, but I love them. CGI is honestly still pretty solid for 20 year old movies. Storyline is a classic and one of my favourites.

One of the GOAT scifi/fantasy trilogies of all time.

    • Yes of course. They're works of art.
      Hobbit is junk tho

    • What the hell? Why all the neg?

      • +1

Likely because asking if LoTR holds up today is like asking if the Pope's Catholic haha –LoTR will always hold up, it's a timeless classic imho. But I agree, no need for neg.

Cheers Op! Bought one to store in the closet for a few years

      • +2

You're joking right? I would accept your comment if it was $79, but $30… maaaaaaate

        • I might be slightly exaggerating but the materials themselves probably wouldn't be that much less than $30 haha.

  • I was absolutely not going to buy this…4k versions coming..so unnecessary…

    Purchased.

    • Will the 4K have this presentation, worth it to replace the disks I reckon.

      • Yeah. This is pretty much the reason I pulled the trigger. Saw some pictures of the presentation of this release and decided it was worth it.

  • Wow, this set looks amazing.

You do realise the collectors edition above isn't just disks right? There's multiple art pieces ready for framing, there's a booklet with 100+ art sketches, the disks themselves come in book style covers that are filled with art and designed beautifully. It's called a collectors edition for a reason. It's for collectors, not the general public who just want the disk, so it's not for you mate, stop wasting your time here being negative.

      • +8

Whoah, ease up! I didn't read any negative tone in popsiee's comment. They haven't expressed any opinion about the deal at all, they're just providing another option to buy all the movies on DVD for a much lower price. Think you overreacted a bit.

        • I got down voted and that's fine, but I guess no one saw poopsiee's other reply in this thread before he made this one. He was trolling.

  • Haha, I like how the description talks up the Hobbit so much: One of the most magical epic adventures in motion picture history, Peter Jackson adapted the cinematic trilogy from the enduringly beloved novel, The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. And those movies are kind of awful.

While it just describes the plot LOTR: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy tells the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), a hobbit who battles against the Dark Lord Sauron to save his world, Middle-earth, from the grip of evil.

One needs to be sold, the other sells itself.

  • I am way more excited about this than I have any right to be!

    Thanks OP, purchased! :)

  • 90% claimed, couldn't resist. Purchased.

  • +2

Had to let that one burn itself out. 100% claimed now. Couldn't justify it with all the 4K releases just announced by WB to be honest…

    • +1

Same just had to preoccupy myself with work then it will sell out… Still hurts me soul though 😂 looking forward to the 4k set!

      • haha, hurt me too much to miss out.

  • I am a prime member and I don't get the discount?

    • Sold out.

  • Got one earlier thanks OP … didn't need it but … thanks FML …

  • Says its in stock but back at full price $491…

  • Has anyone had theirs shipped yet?

    • Yes, I received mine on Monday.

      • Seems like Amazon is taking a very long time to get all my orders shipped… :(

  • I managed to get one through the sale! It surprisingly arrived today…

HOWEVER.. instead of having Book 1-6, I have Book 4 (Fellowship of the Ring) TWICE, and NO Return of the King.

Am chatting to Amazon AU customer service right now: they are saying "as the order is placed on amazon.com.au, we have imported it for you, and both partner sites work independently they cannot take actions on the order". & "I would love to create a replacement for you, however as the item is sold and shipped by amazon US, and we don't have control over the inventories the option to create a replacement is not available".. Seems that because AU imported it, the only option is a refund. Meaning I'll miss out on having this boxset!!

SO HERE IS THE LONG SHOT: to any of you that ordered, and that receive your order… if you happen to NOT get Book 4 (Fellowship of the Ring), but get DOUBLE Book 6 (Return of the King)…. could we trade?

    Edit: visual confirmation - https://imgur.com/lID6Iks

TLDR; didn't get Return of the King in my boxset, but got double Fellowship of the Ring. Anyone that has the OPPOSITE problem.. want to trade?

    • +1

Go for the full refund. Someone else probably got Book 6 twice and no book 4 but I highly doubt they'll see this comment, or as it's shipped from Amazon US, it could be someone in the US that got double Book 4. This ruins the box set. Also after the full refund if you really want it again, keep an eye on it as it might go on special again during black friday period or christmas period, and you can buy it again.

  • Anyone able to get the code working for the Digital HD versions? VPN won't work.

    • The Digital HD voucher for mine said it expired 2019.

      • Still works. That's just a disclaimer.

But, couldn't make an account. VPN won't work. US only, sigh!

        • Ah that's a shame! Thanks for checking.

Might give it a go, but doubt it'll work for me. It's a heck of a boxset, isn't it? :)

          • @redgymhero: It's amazing!! What a steal for $150!! It's so heavy too, solid construction. I still haven't checked if the discs play on anything I own yet haha

            • @RocketSwitch: I agree. I LOVE the leather feel of the 'books'!

And even if the discs don't work, it'll look super nicely on your shelf hahaha.
