Oppo A9 Vs Nokia 5.3 - Which One Is Better?

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market for a new phone as I have cracked the screen + digitisier on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and it's $350-400 to replace the OLED screen + digitiser (Not worth it in my opinion)

Based on Amazon's Prime Day sales I have identified 2 potential replacements, just wondering if I can get your thoughts on which one is better

Option 1: Oppo A9

Option 2: Nokia 5.3

My pick would be the Oppo A9 as the specs are overall better; however I have heard that their warranty support is trash. The Nokia 5.3 has a Android One updates which is a big plus.

If you have any other suggestions around $200-300 then please let me know

Thank you in advance

Nokia. It's not oppo, and has android one.

    • Dodgy USB-C port though

        What's so dodgy about it?

Defective USB-C port across their whole range of phones.

          • @Zuba: Oh ok, we must be lucky then both our family phones have no issues.

            • @arislan: The problem usually arises after the warranty ends

  • A9 has better specs, particularly the 20% larger battery.
The Android One program is great though
Really depends on what you use your phone for and what's important.
Personally I think the Nokia styling if horrible, that that is highly subjective.

  • Was in the same boat, went with Nokia 5.3 only because the Android One was preferable to me over the slightly better specs - so its probably a personal preference. Also owned a Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 7 plus so very familiar and happy with their value for money. Not sure if I'd want to switch to a Chinese brand which may or may not be chummy with the CCP.

Oppo looks great with higher specs but NFC is so useful - for Google Pay and things like trains and buses. That alone, in my opinion, makes the Nokia 5.3 worth it. I'm currently using the 5.3 and it's been ok so far.

Yea, I pretty much stop carrying my credit card and opal card. Also went digital with my driver license, though it doesn't need NFC, but 1 more card out of my wallet. Trying to avoid the George Costanza wallet syndrome
