Price is a bit high for Picasso-based processor, which is 2 generations behind (athlon 3000 series).

Think they put all that budget into upgrading all that RAM but forgot to stick in a better CPU.

  • is this good for Linux programming or am I better off with a Thinkpad?

For around $800-ish you should be able to grab a Ryzen 4000 series Thinkpad E14 Gen2
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/lenovo-thinkpad-e14-gen…

I'm not a Linux user but you may also need to check if the Thinkpad you're buying is Linux Certified, if you're booting on Linux and want all your hardware drivers working.

    • For this price, I wouldn't say this is much good for anything. You'll be much better off with a Thinkpad - as scrimshaw says, a 4000 series (or even a clearance 3000 series) will smoke this in performance and build quality.

Hardware compatibility for Linux really isn't much of an issue these days. The only thing that can be troublesome are fingerprint readers. As you probably know, Lenovo (and specifically Thinkpads) are among the most well-supported laptops for Linux.

  • $800 for a dual core?

This thing would be perfect for Windows XP and minesweeper.

  • sorry mate, no deal here.

I feel sorry for any average mum, dad or blonde girl who bought this laptop thinking they got a good product.
