      even with code PGGUYS15 ?

      • -7

Haha sneaky, that code wasn't there when I first clicked.

  • +2

is this TV any good? How is the software on it? Any reviews please?

    • +1

No Android so you're stuck with whatever apps they give you.

It has built in apps for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon
It has built in screen casting.

Picture looks decent on high resolution content. It's very bright.

At the end of the day its a $500 TV and performs to that price or maybe a little higher.

My HD TV that it replaced was a mid range Samsung and it had better blacks, no light bleed. Then again, there's about a $1k difference in price point.

      • -1

        No android. Yuck.

  • +1

    Yes anybody have any reviews???

  • No worries :-)

  • +1

I've had a 32 inch 1080p TV from hisense and the picture clarity is great

  • Wtf shows $250 postage???

    • WA or NT?

  • How's the 43" for $505? Best price prior was $521 from Appliance Central:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/564260

    • Why not pay 65$ for bigger better

      • +2

I have a small room, haha

        • +1

Me too I sit 2m from TV

        • 43” is great. Bought Friday, setup was easy. Elderly parents vey happy with it. Replaced a 42” plasma. Picture is great, easy to use.

          • +2

@Coops1: The 500 dollar question: to wait for Prime/Black Friday or buy today?

            • +1

@hexapling: Yeah we have no idea what black Friday sales will bring last year my mate only could find 65 inch TV

            • @hexapling: $505.75 or maybe tiny bit less in any future offer/sale. How long do you wait. Great price already, I wouldn’t even be asking the question… Is the Hisense on Amazon even. By the way, used mainly for FTA, and all channels look great.

              • @Coops1: Just a quick question, can your folks adjust brightness and contrast while using the built in smart apps? My new Seiki couldn't manage such a basic feature.

Going to get a new Chrome cast when they are out which ultimately frees us from the built in smart functions.

              • @Coops1: Hello do you own this TV??

                • +3

@Willco88: Bought for elderly parents. Couple of points, ask more if you want to.
                  - simple remote, they just have to push the on button, and then use numbers to navigate FTA channels
                  - very good FTA picture, not quite as good as the equivalent LG/Samsung (hardly noticable though), with Sony the best in store. But your paying $200-$500 more for those brands.
                  - forget the Samsung if you want a simplistic remote.
                  - EPG easy and good to use.
                  - Has the must have APPS.
                  - re seiki….Hisense has all the adjustments that a normal TV should have.

                  • @Coops1: Yea I'm pretty easy don't need every single app just the basics some HD FTA TV channels, foxtel

Bluetooth ear phones I got with my phone for movies when others in bed…. Lol

I use XboX and PS4 for games and Blu-rays.

I'm more worried about the screen quality and angles and fast moving pictures.

                    • -1

@Willco88: Viewing angles….not great. I wouldn’t be watching at 35- 45 degrees as you can see the deterioration. Saying that, who would want to!

                      • @Coops1: For the price and features you can't wait complain, I really want 65 inch like my mate got last year black Friday $995 so I might wait

                  • @Coops1: 👍 Thanks, very clear. One more thing: can it support a regular USB keyboard and mouse? Thinking of using my Logitech K400r for data entry and a bit of web browsing.

Also, I noticed the 43 doesn't have Motion enhancement and compensation (MEMC), whereas the 50 does. This may be a deal changer for me to edge towards the bigger screen.

                    • @hexapling: The Web browser on this is not great.

You'll get a better experience if you browse on your phone and cast to the TV.

                  • @Coops1: Hey mate thanks for that.

Have you had a chance to see how it looks like with sports, i.e. footy.. when it pans quick side to side is it blurry or does the 100hz do a good job and keep the picture looking smooth?

                    • +1

@PappaLuigi: Parents didn’t complain….was the first question I asked Saturday morning.

Saying that, I haven’t seen it on the S8. I have no complaints with my N7 at all with the footy. Of course, extra $ for the premium models gets you a better picture/sports.

        • I have a 3x3 bedroom, rocking a 65 in it. That's max I would go, lucky I didn't go 75 would be cock eyed by now

55 imo is the smallest I'd go

  • Any decent gaming for the upcoming PS5?

    • Hdcp 2.2 hdmi 2.0

      • Sooo.. Yay or Nay to use it with PS5?

        • Depends on your budget mate

          • @Willco88: so in other words Ps5 wont work on TVs that only supports hdmi 2.0

            • -1

@lknight: Of course it will work but 2.1 is the best

            • @lknight: it will work at 4k 60Hz, you need a tv with hdmi 2.1 for 4k at 120hz … (assuming the claims that both xbox and ps5 can do 4k at 120fps is true).

              • @scud70: Sure, for smaller indie titles and platformers

I doubt God of War or Halo will do 4K 120 ray tracing on. Dreaming

  • +4

Personally i just purchased one of these, and have it setup.

Viewing angles are great, picture quality is actually pretty good, and prob the best for that price bracket, and the netflix shows are pretty clear when you go with some 4k videos, the menu's are pretty easy for seniors and shows start and finish times for each channel on standard tv.

Standard tv channels doesn't look that great, but that's normal.

I personally mounted the TV on a swivel stand.

Overall for an under $600 budget tv, id recommend this one over the others, but the only downside is the sound, easily fixed with a soundbar.

(No Kayo or Disney plus) with this tv also.

      Hello what size is yours?
Have you tried PS4 or xbox or Blu-ray?
      Have you tried Bluetooth headphones?
      Thnx

      • +1

I purchased this model - Hisense 50S8 50" UHD TV , which is the one on sale.
Just ran 4K videos through netflix and they look good.
I don't need Bluetooth headphones as its a kitchen TV

        • Well I've got PS4 and Xbox and Blu-rays and use Netflix and Amazon.

What about fast moving movies or sports???

        • +1

Does this TV have a optical out audio port (toslink)? I need that to connect to my (old) Home Theater amp.

  • +1

Would have so bought it if it is >55".

  • Been tossing up between the Hisense and the TCL TVs, sounds like the TCL slightly better as it runs Android. However I am only looking for a "dumb" TV (i will plug a chromecast into it anyway) to run Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Foxtel etc so probably good for the money.

There is also a cheaper Philips one as well ~510 + delivery

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Philips-50PUT6103-79-50-126c…

    • $420 with good guys commercial but personally i looked at one in store and didn't like it sorry big bulky body looked cheap plastic and the colours were washed out and I was using my own USB to watch movies on it but I may be a little fussy?

      • I dont have access to the commercial GG site :(

Sound like it might be worth paying the extra $80 for the Hisense.

      • just curious is the 50s8 same price with GG commercial ?

        • It's full price in GGCC

    • -1

The Philips is only 60Hz, Hisense is 100Hz

      • Yea totally different League of TV

        • Does a refresh rate above 60Hz matter for anything other than games?

I don't like the "artificial" look of the regular TV or films which are all ~25fps but are smoothened by a TV software. I said "artificial" as I realise the 20-30fps picture standard is just something imposed by the TV and film industry.

I remember there used to be 100Hz CRT TVs back in the day, but CRTs flicker and that makes your eyes tired.

      • +1

I am absolutely happy to be proven wrong, in fact please DO prove me wrong, but I am not yet convinced that this Hisense has a native screen refresh rate of 100hz. I think the 100hz mentioned in the specs is just their marketing jargon.

        Eg:

        https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sony-49-inch-x80h-4k-uhd-led…

The above Sony tv $1295.00 has their version of 100hz refresh tech, but it is actually only a 50hz panel. The specs say….

        Motion enhancer
        Motionflow™ XR 100Hz (Native 50Hz)

I am still googling, but unsure if this tv is genuinely 100hz. Totally happy to be proven wrong, please do!!

  • Own the 43" S8 and is a decent TV for the money. I like the custom OS which makes this TV many times quicker than last years model with Android which I also own

  • I bought the 75" S8 last night as part of the same deal. It's another $1k for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

    • What's picture like on such a big TV

      • I checked it out in JB yesterday before I found the eBay deal. I was happy with the quality. Not as good as the OLED, QLED or ULED naturally but for me coming from an 8 year old 1080p Bravia the quality and size for it's price I thought was a good deal.
Least in a few years when OLED tech becomes a bit more mainstream and prices drop, I won't feel as bad upgrading for the price I paid for the 75.

  • I just bought the 75 inch version in store, they matched the eBay offer. Still had to pay the $55 delivery fee.

    • +1

      It's 60 hz tv not 100 hz

  • Would this be a good purchase for the PS5 even without the HDMI 2.1?

    • +1

It will still run at 60hz 4k will still look good because the PS5 has new hardware and software but if you want the best you need 2.1 if you can afford it mate…

      • Cheapest HDMI 2.1 TV I can find is the SONY X9000H 55" for $1795. Just not sure if the 3x the price of the 50S8 is worth it for the HDMI 2.1 (not that the HDMI is the only difference)

        • Your money dude

        • +1

LG Nanocell tvs are also 2.1, all 4 ports i believe. I think the sony is only one or 2 ports cant recall… 55inch nanocell ive seen for about 1500 here and there…. The model must have 86 or higher in it.. The 80 version dont have 2.1.

  • I'm about to purchase this but just wanted to make sure it has a built in netflix and stan
    does anyone know?

    • By all accounts it does.

    • +1

It does - in fact it has:
      Netflix
      Stan
      Prime, and
      Youtube
      dedicated buttons on the remote.

  • Someone really needs to change that original listing. This is not a 100hz tv.
